NCAA Football Pick: Colorado vs. Ohio State Pick
- Updated: September 22, 2011
The Ohio State Buckeyes return to the Horseshoe without a Top 25 ranking for the first time in quite some time this week, as the take on the Colorado Buffaloes in what should be amount to be a “get better game” for the hosts.
The move to the Pac-12 hasn’t immediately helped out the Buffs. They did notch their first win of the season with a 28-14 win in Boulder over their instate rivals, the Colorado State Rams last week, but that came on the heels of two very suspect games, a loss at home against the Cal Golden Bears, and one on the road at the Hawaii Warriors in the opening week of the season. QB Tyler Hansen just hasn’t proven in these three years at Colorado that he has the ability to play against some of the elite teams in the land, and this should really be no exception whatsoever. Hansen does have seven TD passes against just one pick on the campaign, and he is averaging a solid 8.22 yards per pass attempt, but this is the Ohio State defense we’re talking about, not the defense of Hawaii, Cal, or Colorado State. That being said, a defense which has allowed 28.0 points per game on the season as well, something else that really isn’t going to sit well coming into this one against a hungry bunch of Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes knew that this season was going to be difficult, but they probably didn’t know just how difficult it was going to be. OSU really did look awful against the Miami Hurricanes last week on the road, marking the second straight week that the team wasn’t nearly at the expectation level that we had, even for this group at the start of the season. That being said, this is the second to last game that the team is going to have to play without RB Boom Herron, WR DeVier Posey and others who were suspended at the end of last season for taking illegal benefits. The defense for Ohio State really has done nothing wrong this year. Yes, the Canes marched right up and down the field twice in the first two possessions of the game last week in South Beach, but aside from those two drives, no one has had a ton of success against this defense, which is allowing 15.3 points per game. QB Joe Bauserman had a miserable day, and he and the quarterback of the future, QB Braxton Miller have been splitting time under center. Expect to see much of the same this week as well.
Colorado Buffaloes @ Ohio State Buckeyes Pick: As much as we don’t like the Buckeyes, the Buffs are just in significantly worse shape. They’re not good at all, and Hansen is going to have a tough, tough time against this defense. Don’t be shocked if the Buckeyes take some frustration out on Colorado this weekend in Columbus.
