The Rice Owls and Southern Miss Golden Eagles are set to square off on the turf at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium. ESPN+ has the TV rights and the game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.

On the offensive side, Shawn Stankavage completed 20 passes for 299 yards, two scores and one interception. Emmanuel Esukpa (104 rushing yards on 17 attempts, one TD) mounted the ground attack in the loss. Austin Walter (five receptions, 82 yards) and Aaron Cephus (five catches, 97 yards, one TD) shared the receiving duties.

Two weeks ago, Louisiana-Monroe got the win against this Southern Miss team by a score of 21-20. The Golden Eagles defensive unit allowed the Warhawks to rush for 159 yards on 30 attempts. Marcus Green put up a good outing, recording 96 yards and two touchdowns on four catches for Louisiana-Monroe. For Southern Miss, Jack Abraham completed 31-of-46 passes for 378 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Tez Parks (42 yards on 17 rush attempts) handled the ground attack in the defeat while Quez Watkins (11 receptions, 81 yards, one TD) and Jaylond Adams (nine catches, 158 yards, one TD) led the pass-catching attack.

Rice has run the ball on 57.4 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Southern Miss has an overall rush percentage of 50.0 percent. The Owls have produced 201 rush yards/game and have four touchdowns via handoffs this year. The Golden Eagles are logging 130 rush yards per contest and have only one rushing TD.

The Owls have averaged 226 yards through the air overall and have five passing TDs so far. The Golden Eagles have produced 317 pass yards per game and have six total pass score.

On the defensive side of the ball, Rice has allowed 186 rush yards and 294 pass yards per game. Southern Miss has been a bit better than that, giving up 130.0 rushing yards per game and 146.5 to opposing teams in the air. The Owls will probably try to control tempo by getting the ball into the hands of their running backs. Along with Aaron Cephus (107 yards, one TD), Austin Walter (108 rush yards, two rush TDs, 90 receiving yards) and Emmanuel Esukpa (277 rush yards, two rush TDs) have been big focal points in the Rice offense.

In the home locker room, Jack Abraham has accounted for 378 yards, two TDs and two INTs. Abraham’s ANY/A stands at 5.73 for the season and 7.56 over his past two games.

The Golden Eagles should also look to control the clock by turning to their backfield. In addition to Quez Watkins (81 receiving yards, one receiving TD), Jaylond Adams (five rush yards, 158 receiving yards, one receiving TD) and Tez Parks (42 rush yards, 65 receiving yards) have seen a multitude of touches lately.

When these two schools met a year ago, Southern Miss won by three field goals 43-34.
