NCAA Football Betting: Virginia Tech @ Georgia Tech Pick
- Updated: November 9, 2011
First place in the ACC Coastal Division and likely a bid in the ACC Championship Game will be handed out on Thursday night in NCAA football betting action, as the Virginia Tech Hokies travel to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Every single year, Head Coach Frank Beamer and company end up in the Top 15 or so in the country, and this year appears to be no exception. The team’s only loss against the Clemson Tigers can be avenged if the two meet in the ACC Championship Game, a very likely scenario, and if that’s the case, V-Tech will likely be favored to go to the BCS for a second straight season. Beamer Ball has ruled this year once again, though the special teams for the Hokies aren’t as special as they usually are. That being said, the team still runs the ball incredibly well and plays rock solid defense. On the ‘D’, the team is averaging allowing just 298.3 yards per game and 15.4 points per game, ranking No. 12 and No. 6 in the nation respectively. RB David Wilson has 1,189 rushing yards and seven scores, and he is one of the three players on the team that has at least six touchdown totes on the campaign. The passing game is actually used nearly as much as the running game this year, but that’s because QB Logan Thomas has two great receivers to work with in WR Danny Coale and WR Jarrett Boykin, which have 80 reception, 1,108 yards, and five TDs between them.
We knew that the season wasn’t quite over for the Ramblin’ Wreck when they went on their horrible stretch of games a few weeks ago that included losses to the Virginia Cavaliers and the Miami Hurricanes. Technically, G-Tech doesn’t control its own destiny in the ACC, but we are all assuming that UVA will get beaten by the Hokies when those two meet, which would then, in turn, give the Jackets the edge in the conference title race once and for all. Though the team is throwing the ball a tad more this year, it’s still all about the ground game and the triple option. A whopping seven players have at least 170 rushing yards on the year, three of which have at least 550 yards on the ground. QB Tevin Washington is leading the way with 636 yards and 10 TDs, but RB Orwin Smith has 553 yards and 10 scores as well. RB David Sims has 102 carries, tops for rushers on the team, and he has 564 yards and four TDs. In the passing game, do watch out for WR Stephen Hill, though. He has just 20 receptions on the year, but he is averaging an insane 30.4 yards per catch and has four trips to the end zone.
Virginia Tech Hokies @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Pick: Though Georgia Tech is a solid team, the way that you beat the triple option is with speed. It doesn’t get much faster than the Hokies defense, a unit which should prevail when push comes to shove on Thursday night.
