NCAA Football Betting: Michigan State @ Notre Dame Pick
- Updated: September 15, 2011
The Spartans haven’t played amazing football this year, but in spite of the fact that not all that much from this team graduated from last year, they just don’t feel like the same team that was once in the Top 10 of the land. MSU did take down the Youngstown State Penguins and the Florida Atlantic Owls without any difficulties, but the problem is that there really haven’t been any great teams on the slate either. This Notre Dame game really doesn’t feel like it is all that great of a game either, so it might be awhile before we find out just how strong this team really is. The defense for Michigan State was absolutely amazing last week, holding FAU to just 48 yards and a whopping one first down. That being said, RBs Edwin Baker and Le’Veon Bell scampered for a combined 119 yards and two TDs. QB Kirk Cousins threw for 183 yards on 16-of-21 completions with two scores and no picks, marking his second straight good game after his disastrous duel against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Capital One Bowl.
This might really be a turning point in the coaching career of Brian Kelly. Kelly was embarrassed last year in this game when he was clearly outfoxed by Head Coach Mike Dantonio with the “Little Giants” play, the fake field goal in overtime that took a potential win for the Irish or a tie to go to another overtime period and turned it into a Michigan State upset. Now, after a brutal loss at home against the South Florida Bulls and a tremendous and epic collapse in the dying seconds against the Michigan Wolverines last week, an 0-3 start could be the begin of the end for Kelly. QB Tommy Rees clearly was the better choice of the two quarterbacks for Notre Dame, and it’s amazing that he didn’t get the start in Week 1. He had a stellar day against Michigan last week, though this is going to be a difficult challenge against an MSU team that is significantly tougher team on this side of the ball.
Michigan State Spartans @ Notre Dame Fighting Irish Pick: Say goodnight, Notre Dame! The Irish have had it, and the arms of Touchdown Jesus are going to be dropping. Michigan State is just a better team, and though this is a must-win game for the Irish, we just don’t see them pulling it off. There’s no reason for Notre Dame to be favored in this game.
