NCAA Football Betting: Miami Hurricanes vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Pick

Miami Hurricanes
(6-3, 4-5 ATS)

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
(5-4, 4-5 ATS)

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Miami Hurricanes both have some major issues at the quarterback position right now, and they’ll both try to work through them in a great college football betting battle on Saturday afternoon in the ACC Coastal Division.

The Hurricanes still have the possibility that they’ll be without QB Jacory Harris on Saturday. Though he was originally slated to be out two games with a concussion, Harris might be back after just one, as he is listed as probable on the injury report and is expecting to give it a whirl. His backup, QB Stephen Morris performed admirably in his absence, as he threw for 286 yards and a score in the come from behind 26-20 win over the Maryland Terrapins last week. The Canes know that they are bowling already, so at least that pressure is off, but HC Randy Shannon knows that he can’t just limp home to the finish line and expect to still have his job next year. Winning out is a legitimate possibility and would keep the Canes in the Top 25 at the end of the year. With a defense that is allowing just 19.1 points per game, winning the ACC still isn’t totally out of the question, and you can bet that “The U” is dying for its first appearance in the ACC Championship Game.

Georgia Tech lost its starting QB Josh Nesbitt for the rest of the season in what could prove to be a disheartening loss to the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Jackets now know that they have virtually no chance to win the ACC this year for a second straight season, but they still know that one more win will lock up bowl eligibility. QB Tevin Washington isn’t a prolific passer, but neither was Nesbitt. Washington has the same type of legs though, and he’ll have no problem running all over the field and calling the triple option offense. As always, RB Anthony Allen is going to be highlighted in this offense. He is averaging 5.9 yards per carry this year and has 817 total yards to go with five scores on the ground. The defense has been a letdown at times for G-Tech, but allowing 24.1 points per game in the ACC isn’t all that bad. Opposing teams have some success on the ground though, averaging 166.2 yards per game, something that Miami is going to really try to exploit on Saturday.

History suggests that Miami doesn’t have the triple option figured out and that it could run into some hassles here in Atlanta. Washington isn’t going to have to do a heck of a lot, but he just needs to be smart with the football and not make bad decisions. If he does that, the Yellow Jackets can sting the Canes in a big way that they will not recover from.
