NBA – TRENDS OF THE DAY
It’s here. The trade deadline clock is ticking. Looking back to the previous seasons, it’s a day the bettors should look to avoid making bets. However, the league imposed changes moved the deadline forward and all the games will be played after all is said and done. Also, there’s some desire to make some deals, but nothing that would change the current image. That current image is what we’re after in our NBA Betting Trends of the Day, selecting the best trends for the bettors’ benefit.
It’s a busy Thursday though, with six games set to be played. Atlanta is in Orlando, New York will go limping to Toronto, Boston plays in Washington, Charlotte is a long way from home with a Portland trip, Dallas takes on Golden State and Oklahoma City stays in California to play LA Lakers next.
- The Magic are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
Gordon who? The Magic continue to thrive without their starting forward, suggesting that he’s forcing too much. They are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 against the East, and the Hawks are 1-8 ATS in such games. True, the Magic have enjoyed such success against good teams, who had not only raised their level of play but also been handicapped. The Magic are 1-9 ATS in the last 10 games playing against teams with losing records. On the other hand, the Hawks aren’t taking advantage of playing bad teams either – they’re just 0-3-1 ATS in the previous 4 road games to sub .500 hosts.
- The Celtics are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
The Wizards are no slouches themselves, stringing five ATS wins before the defeat in Philadelphia in their last game. Still, they are just 2-5 ATS at home and are streaky. The Wizards are 2-7 in their last 9 following a loss. The Celtics really disappointed in their previous game and will be eager to improve the image. Visitors are 9-4-1 ATS following a loss.
- The Lakers are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 home games.
The purple and gold have been more gold than purple as of late. The Lakers covered in 7 of the previous 9 games overall and clearly enjoy playing in Staples. The Thunder are reenergized with the blowout victory over the reigning champions, but they are equally dangerous and vulnerable to almost any team in the NBA. OKC is just 1-4 ATS in the past five overall and 1-7 ATS on the road against sub .500 teams. In a matchup of a hot team against a cold one, we like the Lakers.
- The Trail Blazers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.
This trend might be in its infancy, but the Blazers have been playing much better at home since the start of 2018. The Hornets are 1-3-1 ATS on the road, and 0-5 ATS against the West, so they aren’t much of a threat. It’s a multi-year trend, but they are just 1-8 ATS playing in Portland. What’s more concerning is that the Blazers don’t respond well to losing. They are 1-5 ATS following a loss.
- The Warriors are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 home games.
We tried ignoring this growing cold trend and it burned us a couple of times. The Warriors have covered just once in the previous 5 overall, collecting bad SU losses along the way. Meanwhile, the Mavericks keep fighting. They are 8-2 ATS over the last ten games on the road. The payout days come with even higher frequency when they visit good teams – Mavericks are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. They are also well rested and have gone 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 2 days off.
- Under is 7-1 in Mavericks last 8 overall.
Under is a natural selection when it comes to Dallas games, and this trend only boosts confidence in such outcome. The Mavs are 9-2 on the minus side when rester, 6-1 when playing .600+ teams and 5-1 against the West. As the Splash Brothers have been clanking perimeter shots one game after another, the Warriors have been collecting unders as well. Total points line was passed just once in their previous five games.
- Under is 6-0 in Knicks last 6 overall.
This will probably be the popular choice with all the injuries on the Knicks side, but this doesn’t change the effect of this recent trend. The Knicks stayed below the line in each of the previous 5 conference games and the last four times they were previous defeated. The Raptors are 2-6 against the over/under at home recently and have gone over the line only once in the last 6 tries when playing teams with losing straight up records.
- Over is 8-3-1 in Wizards last 12 home games.
Over is 8-0-1 in Wizards last 9 games following a straight up loss, 5-1 playing on one day rest and 6-1 against the East. The Celtics are struggling to score and defense is good, so they aren’t exactly the best partner in this dance. They did top the lines in four of the previous 5 games against teams with winning records. Over is also 4-1 in the previous five games between these two rivals.
