NBA Totals Plays 12/05/17

Last Updated: 2017-12-05

Just three games on the schedule for today, as we moved to 13-1 on our opinion plays for the season.

Instead of looking at the updated ratings, let’s take a look at some of the totals trends that have developed so far in the 2017-18 NBA season. Overall, all games are 161-182-6 (46.9%), with the average total of 211.4 slightly higher than the average score of 210.8.

Totals of 200 or higher have gone 140-166-5 (45.8%) and totals of 199.5 and lower have posted a 21-16-1 (3.86, 56.8%) mark, so the expected low-scoring games aren’t quite playing out to form.

Those games with a total of 210 or higher have gone 88-98-3 (47.3%) and in those games where the total is 220 or greater the mark is 34-32-3.

In games where the road team is favored, totals are 54-60-3 (47.4%) and games where the home team is favored have gone 106-116-3 ( 47.7%).

Teams are 56-60-4 when playing back-to-back games, so no real advantage there on way or the other.

Phoenix at Toronto: The Raptors are favored by 13.5 and the total is 223, having dropped slightly from the opening number of 224.5. The Suns are of a 12-4 run as a road underdog, while I have this one 120-107. The Raptors are 6-7 following a victory, while the Suns have posted a 5-2-1 ledger following a victory.

Utah at Oklahoma City: The Jazz are favored by 7 with a total of 197, while I have this one 102-89. The Jazz have gone 6-6 following a victory this season, but are 3-2 in their back-to-back situations. The Thunder are just 3-6 following a victory.

Washington at Portland: The Blazers are favored by 6 and the total on this one is 202 after the Wizards’ dismal offensive output last night. I have this one 107-100. Teams who scored fewer than 70 points the previous game are just 7-10-1 in totals dating back to the 2013-14 season and both teams are in decent under trends, with Washington on a 3-9 road run and the Blazers on a 6-20-1 trend as a favorite and also on a 1-7 home run. The Wizards are 3-7 following a defeat. The Blazers are 5-4 following a loss. While the numbers are calling for a slight lean to the over, nearly all of the trends are pointing to the under, so will take the under 202 for today’s opinion play.
