The NBA is all about two things right now. Teams that are tanking and teams that are trying to get into the playoffs. That could come in different forms between now and when the season ends, but if you find the right spots to bet on the right team it could turn into a money making situation. The NBA handicapper has their work cut out for them on a nightly basis as they always have to look for the spot with the most value.
The NBA betting sheet covers the weekend of March 9th to March 11th and we have several things to keep an eye on as the weekend tips off with some great basketball action. This includes all of the best betting trends, tips and picks that you need to know to build your bankroll for the NBA playoffs.
Too Hot To Handle
The NBA Western Conference is on a roll right now. The top four teams in the West are a combined 41-0 straight up in the last 41 games. They are also 38-2 straight up in the last ten games combined. It is also interesting to note that these hot teams which include the Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, New Orleans Pelicans and the Portland Trail Blazers are also heating up against the spread (ATS). Combined these teams are a 29-11 ATS in the last 40 games overall. This may seem obvious to the bettor but surprisingly it is the Warriors who are the ones struggling the most against the number with a 5-5 ATS mark in the last ten games. This is because the Warriors usually have an inflated number, while other surprise teams like the Pelicans and the Blazers are winning big at the betting window. The Rockets have a tough game against the Raptors on Friday night.
At this time of the season it is important for the NBA handicapper to look for different betting angles to take advantage of. One of those different betting angles includes the Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers have been fantastic against the spread this season as they are 35-26-2 ATS this year. However there is another angle that the handicapper should consider when the Sixers take to the floor. If the Sixers have Joel Embid in the lineup, the Sixers have been a rock solid bet in the first quarter of the games that they have played in. The Sixers are cashing in on 73 percent of the games that Embid has played in. The Sixers are 38-14-1 ATS in the first quarter in the last 53 games that they have played in. Looking at different angles in games down the stretch can always provide some great betting angles.
The Memphis Grizzlies can be a team considered in the tank category. They just have 18 wins on the season and they are 27-35-2 ATS this year. They are also 3-7 ATS in the last ten games overall and they are 0-10 straight up in the last ten games that they have played heading into the weekend. It won’t get any easier on Sunday when they go up against the Utah Jazz. The Jazz are fighting to be in the playoffs as they are close to getting in and they get the Grizzlies playing in their second game in three nights. Unless the commissioner makes a point of calling out Memphis, they should be a team to avoid at all costs.
