NBA Betting Sheet January 12th to January 14th

Last Updated: 2018-01-12

While college basketball gets all the love on Saturday, the NBA has an incredible schedule to consider this weekend.

On Friday, the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks host the Golden State Warriors. On Saturday, those same Warriors travel to Canada to take on the Toronto Raptors. Finally, on Sunday the Portland Trail Blazers take on the young gunning and fun loving Minnesota Timberwolves who have been on a tear of late. With so many great games to watch there are plenty of things to consider before betting on the National Basketball Association this weekend.

The NBA Betting sheet covers the weekend of January 12th to January 14th with the latest news, basketball betting trends and things that the hoops handicapper needs to consider before betting on basketball this weekend.

Trade Troubles

There are plenty of things that can distract a basketball team, but nothing can be more distracting than the trade deadline. Teams use the trade deadline to determine if they are in it to win it for the rest of the season or if they are going to give up and trade their assets. When trade talk begins, rumors swirl and players often get questioned in the media, which could cause a big distraction this time of year. The trade deadline is on February 8th and here are some of the teams and big names being talked about. The Clippers could give up on the season and trade big man DeAndre Jordan. That would also mean hot shooting Lou Williams would be shipped off to a contender. The Pelicans could ship DeMarcus Cosuins and the Memphis Grizzlies could dump their entire roster to include Marc Gasol. The Bulls almost assuredly will trade Nikola Mirotic and draft picks could be dealt as well. This is a busy and exciting time of the season, but could also cause teams some problems in the form of distractions.

Winning Wolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves will host the New York Knicks on Friday night. The Wolves are in the middle of a five game home stand and they are playing good basketball. They have won three straight games and covered them all against the spread (ATS). These were very big games as they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. This could be a letdown spot for the Wolves as the Knicks are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings and the underdog is 8-2-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings. The Wolves are an ugly 8-22-1 ATS in the last 31 games against the Eastern Conference and after all of the big wins that they have had lately, this is a game where you may want to pass on the favorite.

Calendar Crunch

There are several teams that have scheduling good spots and jams that need to be checked out. After playing in London, the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers will get 3-4 days off respectively. The Golden State Warriors are banged up and will play back to back road games this weekend and may be looking ahead to the Monday night game at Cleveland against LeBron James and the Cavaliers. That will be their third game in four nights. The Brooklyn Nets will also play back to back games this weekend and will play Monday night against the New York Knicks in what will be their third game in four nights. If you want to successfully bet on the NBA you have to know the schedule.
