NBA Betting Previews- New York Knicks vs. Atlanta Hawks
- Updated: March 30, 2012
Total Line: 190
The New York Knicks will look to continue their climb to the top of the Atlantic Division this Friday night when they invade Phillips Arena to battle the Atlanta Hawks in an Eastern Conference clash with playoff implications for both teams. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be available on NBA League Pass.
Despite the loss Amar’e Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin, New York made short work of Orlando on Wednesday night in a 108-86 romp as a 1.5-point home underdog. The win pushed its overall record over .500 to 26-25 both straight-up and against the spread. The Knicks now head on the road where they are 9-15 SU and 10-14 ATS this season. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 17 of those 24 games.
The good news is that Lin remains day-to-day with a sore knee and should hopefully be available for Friday night, but the bad news is that Stoudemire is out indefinitely with a bulging disc in his back. The main strength of this team remains a defense that has held its opponent to 90 points or less in six of its last seven games.
Atlanta is currently in sixth-place in the East at 30-22 SU (26-24-2 ATS) but riding a two-game losing streak into this contest. The Hawks lost to Milwaukee 108-101 on Tuesday night as 2.5-point road underdogs and were thumped by Chicago 98-77 as four-point home dogs on Wednesday. They are 16-8 SU (12-12 ATS) at home with the total staying ‘under’ in 13 of the 24 games.
Joe Johnson and Josh Smith continue to lead the way for Atlanta with a combined 37.4 points a game. As a team, the Hawks are ranked 20th in the NBA in scoring with an average of 94.6 points a game while holding their opponents to 93.1 points a game.
The Knicks are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall, but just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games on the road. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their last seven games.
The Hawks are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a SU loss, but 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against the Atlantic Division. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of their last seven home games.
Head-to-head in this series, New York is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings and 7-1 ATS in its last eight trips to Atlanta. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of the last six games. The Knicks rolled to a 99-82 victory as seven-point home favorites on Feb.22 in the only meeting this season.
The ‘under’ could be the best play in this matchup depending on the actual total line as this should be a low-scoring affair for both teams. Look for the Hawks to get the SU win at home, but New York covers as a mild road underdog. The Free NBA Pick: Atlanta 89 New York 87
