NBA Betting Guide-March 20

The NBA playoff picture is starting to take shape as the regular season continues to churn towards the postseason. Chicago and Miami have clearly established themselves as the top two teams in the Eastern Conference and Oklahoma City continues to lead the way in the West. The race for the title in the other three divisions remains up for grabs with a number of teams still in contention.

This NBA betting guide takes into consideration how a particular team is doing in the standings in relation to how it is doing where it counts the most; against the spread. The following is a brief look at the best few teams in the league.

The team at the top of this list in both categories is the Chicago Bulls. They not only have the best record in the NBA straight-up at 38-10 through Tuesday night’s games, they own the best record ATS at 29-19. The Bulls are 19-4 SU at home, but just 12-11 ATS. Where they have really been impressive is on the road with a 19-6 record SU and a 17-8 record ATS. The total has gone 10-12-1 at home this season, but it has gone ‘over’ in 15 of the 24 games on the road.

The team with the second-best record ATS in the NBA at 25-17 is the also the second-best team in the Western Conference at 29-14 SU. The San Antonio Spurs currently lead the Southwest Division by four games over both Memphis and Dallas. They are 17-4 SU at home and 14-7 ATS. The one area where the Spurs have struggled a bit is on the road where they are 12-10 SU and 11-10-1 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in 24 of their 43 games overall, but it has stayed ‘under’ in 13 of their 21 games at home.

When talking about the elite teams in the NBA, the Toronto Raptors certainly do not come to mind, but they remain one of the most profitable teams in the league to wager on at 26-18-1 ATS. The Raptors are buried in the Eastern Conference standings with a SU record of 15-30, but at home this season they are 12-8-1 ATS and on the road they have a 14-10 record ATS. The total has gone 11-10 at home and 9-13-2 on the road.

The final team to earn a spot on this week’s list is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Not only have they opened the biggest lead of any division race in the West at 9.5 games over Denver, they have the second-best SU record in the NBA at 34-11. The reason the Thunder is so high on this list is a profitable 25-20 record ATS. Much like Chicago, their strength this season has been the ability to cover on the road. Oklahoma City is 12-11 ATS at home, but 13-9 ATS on the road. The total has gone 23-22 overall; 13-10 at home and 10-12 on the road.

The few teams with a healthy record ATS are the Denver Nuggets at 25-21 both SU and ATS, the Minnesota Timberwolves at 23-24 SU and 25-22 ATS, the Philadelphia 76ers at 26-20 SU and 24-21-1 ATS, and the Atlanta Hawks at 26-20 SU and 24-21-1 ATS.

There are a few teams that have a winning record on the court, but remain under .500 ATS including the Boston Celtics at 24-21 SU but 20-25 ATS, the Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers who are both 25-18 SU but 20-23 ATS, and the Los Angeles Lakers at 28-17 SU but 21-24 ATS.
