NCAA Football – Week 7

Two teams that are hoping to find their way to a bowl game this year are going to meet at Kelly Shorts Stadium on Friday night for a standalone college football betting battle, as the Navy Midshipmen duke it out with the Central Michigan Chippewas.

The Middies have a couple wins over the course of their last three games, and the win over the Air Force Falcons was one of the biggest that they have had in quite some time. The team had only been blown away by superior opponents this year, scoring just a total of 17 points in games against the Penn State Nittany Lions, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and San Jose State Spartans, all of which are of the caliber of Top 25 teams. QB Trey Miller leads the team in rushing with 291 yards and three scores, and there are only five other touchdown to account for this year. RB Noah Copeland is coming on strong, while SB Gee Gee Greene is one of the best triple option offensive players in the nation, and he is averaging 7.4 yards per carry this year. The defense, save for that first game in Dublin against Notre Dame, has been pretty good and is getting better as the season wears on, and this is the unit to really watch as the year progresses.

Central Michigan has had an odd season. The Chippies have an upset of the Iowa Hawkeyes to their credit, but they have been blown to bits in their other three games this year against FBS teams. This is the first of four straight home games for the Chippewas though, and they have to think that they are going to get back on track here against the Naval Academy before they get back to MAC play next week. The defense for CMU is allowing over 40 points per game and is ranked 120th in the nation, but this will be a significantly easier test than recent ones. On the other side of the ball, QB Ryan Radcliff has thrown for 1,286 yards and nine scores this year. The hero of the offense though, is RB Zurlon Tipton, who has 447 yards on 72 carries in 2012. WR Titus Davis has 378 yards on just 19 receptions, and his 19.9 yards per catch and four touchdowns are both tops on the team for receivers.

The Midshipmen are probably going to be able to find a way to stick around in this game with their defense. They have played well in the two games in this series since 2003, and the Chippewas have had a hard time stopping the triple option. There’s one fewer day of practice this week with this game being on Friday, which will really hurt CMU, but in the end, we think that the team will figure out how to eke out a victory, but not a cover.
