The Money Down: August 25

St. Louis Rams: Not So Ram Tough

Sam Bradford is hurt again. This is truly a sad story as the Rams look very good heading into this season.
At first the Rams had reported that the injury was not serious.

Then they realized that he would be gone for the year.

This is most likely the end of the Bradford era in St. Louis and the ramifications (excuse the pun) are endless.

The Rams have no choice, but to look to the future.

It may not be as easy as they think as team realize that the Rams are in a difficult spot.

The Rams have all of the faith in the world in Shaun Hill.

Many are comparing this moment to the Kurt Warner.

From a betting standpoint, there has been some change to the odds for the Rams. The Rams are (+8000) to win the Super Bowl, (+3300) to win the NFC and are still behind the rest of the pack to win the competitive NFC West.

Denver Broncos: Wes Welker Heading To Retirement?

Another injury that made headlines over the weekend involved Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker.

This is a devastating injury to a Broncos offense that needs all of their weapons and the reaction by quarterback Peyton Manning showed just how much this could hurt the team.

The news on Welker’s return is as muddled as expected considering the injury.

The focus is on D.J. Swearinger who made his second questionable hit in as many preseasons.

The Broncos still have plenty of great offensive weapons at their disposal and although Welker is a nice piece to have, his absence did not change the betting odds. The Broncos are at still at (+500) to win the Super Bowl this year.

NFL Injuries: Beat Up Big Names

Wes Welker and Sam Bradford were not the only big names to be bitten by the injury bug over the weekend.

In Carolina all of the focus is on the quarterback as it was announced that he has an injury.

For those who bet on week four preseason games (and there should not be many) Newton will not play after there was speculation he would play in the finale.

The Green Bay Packers also got some bad news as they lost the services of one of their defenders.

Unlike other teams, the Packers have a plan in place to replace the injured big man.

The odds for the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl are (+1000) and the odds for the Carolina Panthers to hoist the Lombardi trophy are (+4000)
