Two teams that are coming off 1-1 draws in their last matches are now locking horns on Saturday, May 20th, when FC Dallas will be playing host to the San Jose Earthquakes. FC Dallas are the only team to still be going on undefeated, while San Jose look like they have found some stability after a rough start.
FC Dallas (5-0-4) are coming into this match after a 1-1 draw at home against New York City FC. They were much better at the first half, as they took the lead at the 20th minute with Acosta, but NYCFC pushed hard in the second half. They did manage to pull even at the 68th minute with McNamara for the final 1-1, as FC Dallas remained undefeated for the 9th consecutive match this season. They are now sitting at the 3rd spot of the Western Conference with 19 points having scored 14 goals so far, against just 6 conceded, which is the best defense in the MLS by far. They have been amazing at home so far (3-0-2), where they started off with consecutive wins against New England, Minnesota and SKC, before back-to-back draws against Portland and NYCFC. They will be coming into this match with just a couple of absences, as midfielders Mauro Diaz and Paxton Pomykal are both injured and unavailable.
On the other hand, San Jose (4-4-4) are coming off a hard-fought 1-1 draw at home against Orlando City. The match was pretty balanced throughout the most part, but it was Orlando City who tried to steal the 3 points when they took the lead at the 80th minute. However, San Jose were quick in their response, as Wondolowski pulled even just 3 minutes later for the final 1-1. They are now sitting at the 5th spot of the Western Conference with 16 points, having scored 13 goals against 14 conceded. They have suffered a lot on the road so far (1-4-1), where they have scored just 3 goals against 9 conceded. They have only defeated minnows Minnesota on the road (1-0), and have held New England to a goal-less draw. Other that that, they have lost to NYCFC, SKC, Houston and Colorado. They will be making this trip with a handful of injury concerns, as Amarikwa, Wynne, Pelosi, Cummings and Salinas are all listed as out, while Imperiale is still listed as questionable to participate.
FC Dallas have been very good at home in this match-up (4-2-5), having lost just one match against San Jose since 2012. I don’t think that San Jose can threaten FC Dallas’ undefeated streak here, but don’t expect Dallas to blow them up. I will take the simple home win here, despite the low odds.
Prediction : FC Dallas -0.5 (-156).
