Houston proved yet again that despite their dominance in their home matches, they are still very weak on the road. They are coming off a 0-2 loss to Philadelphia, as they are now getting ready for one more match on the road, when they are hosted by the new-comers Atlanta United on Saturday, May 20th. Atlanta are coming off a 1-1 draw on the road against Portland, and they have generally showed some very promising features so far.
Atlanta United (3-4-3) are coming into this match after securing a 1-1 draw on the road against the Portland Timbers last week. After a goal-less first half, it was Atlanta who took the lead at the 46th minute with Gressel, before their opponents pulled even at the 50th minute with Ridgewell, for the final 1-1. That draw came to put a stop to their would-have-been skid, as prior to that they had lost a couple of matches by 1-3 and 3-1. They are now sitting at the 9th spot of the Eastern Conference with 12 points, having scored 20 goals against 15 conceded so far. They have only played 3 matches at home (1-2-0), where they have destroyed Chicago by 0-4, but have lost to DC United and the Red Bulls, despite the fact that they scored the first goal on both occasions. They will be coming into this match with just a couple of absences, as forwards Josef Martinez and Jacob Petersen are still injured and unavailable.
On the other hand, Houston (6-4-1) are coming off a 0-2 loss on the road against Philadelphia Union. Their opponents had already scored both goals by the 38th minute, but Houston were pushing hard at the second half for at least one goal, that never actually came. Houston are having a quite interesting season so far, as they are sitting at the 2nd spot of the Western Conference with 19 points, having scored 21 goals against 16 conceded. On one hand, they have been dominant at home, where they are still undefeated (6-0-1), but on the other hand, they have lost all their road matches so far (0-4-0). Once again they have been extremely weak on the road, where they have only scored a couple of goals against 10 conceded. They will be making this trip with just a few injury concerns, as defender George Malki and midfielder Eric Alexander are injured, while forward Alberth Elis is now listed as questionable to participate.
Atlanta United have produced a couple of very strong results so far in the season, proving that they are not to be taken lightly. Houston are having a pretty weird season, as they are dominant at home, but they are once again very weak on the road. I would normally stay clear of this match, but I have a feeling that Houston will continue their bad performances on the road, and I am willing to risk with the home win here.
Prediction : Atlanta -0.5 (+104).
