Usually I like to stay away from really bad teams because answering the question of “How bad will they be?” is not easy, but this is one where I think I can find an answer.

The sad thing is that this rotation doesn’t appear to be all that bad and the bullpen has a few interesting pieces, but it is a team destined to win less than 70 games from the jump. And who knows who else will be traded over the course of the year?

We know that Mickey Callaway is gifted when it comes to getting the most out of talented pitchers and there are still a lot of them on the roster. Are the Mets a high-variance team? Are they a team with a high floor and a low ceiling?

The Phillies got hit early in the betting market on the over and saw another adjustment thanks to the Harper signing. Is there still value on the Phillies at this point in time or has this number simply gotten too far away?

For a team that had a Cy Young finalist in Max Scherzer, a full season from Trea Turner, the debuts of Juan Soto and Victor Robles, and another huge year from Anthony Rendon, falling short of the playoffs and barely finishing over .500 was a surprise.

We go into this season knowing that the Cubs will be a solid team. How good the Cubs will be is the primary question that we have to answer. This is a team with the talent to make an October run, but the division is a bear and the pitching staff could have some rather big bumps in the road.

With three teams very much capable of winning 90+ games and maybe even a division winner and both Wild Card teams, somebody has to lose in the Central Division. That somebody has to be the Reds, right?

This division is still a real challenge and the Brewers don’t have the same margin for error that bigger payroll teams like the Cubs and Cardinals have. A lot of things need to go right for teams like the Brewers.

Pittsburgh was 26-17 after 43 games and actually had first place in the NL Central, but went six games under .500 the rest of the way. By May 27, the Pirates were in fourth place, five games out at 28-24, and were never higher than third in the NLC. What is supposed to change for 2019?

Like most of the NL Central contenders, the floor for the Cardinals is high. The ceiling is to be determined. How much has to go right for this team to be in the hunt for 162, not just for the division or something more, but to go over a season win total that appears to leave little margin for error?

Tremendous individual growth by guys like German Marquez and Kyle Freeland spearheaded a Rockies team that had a relatively poor offensive profile. Will that be the recipe again in 2019?

The Padres ponied up with a 10-year, $300 million deal for Machado with an opt out after five years after Spring Training had started. Will that accelerate the rebuild? Will there be more internal pressure to move guys up the ranks in the system?
