Here is the MLB Picks for Wednesday April 23, 2014.
Arizona Diamondbacks at Chicago Cubs
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs are not the best baseball teams in the league this season, but they do have some talented players. This includes the Cubs starter for Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, Jeff Samardzijas. The Cubs are only 1-3 when Samardzijas has taken the hill, but not due to his pitching. He has posted a WHIP just above 1.00 this season and a minute ERA of 1.71. Arizona is struggled in the Windy City as the Diamondbacks are 3-10 in the last 13 meetings in Chicago. The Diamondbacks are 6-21 in their last 27 overall and the Cubs will finally give some run support to their ace.
Free Pick: Chicago Cubs -120
Cincinnati Reds at Pittsburgh Pirates
The Cincinnati Reds were predicted by many to make a run at the World Series, but they have a big problem. That problem is their bullpen, which has proven to be in big trouble night after night. How bad is it? Statistically, the Reds went into Tuesday with the worst bullpen in the Major League Baseball with a 5.77 ERA. It’s early, but the Reds relievers are getting hit around at an alarming rate. Opponents are hitting .274 against Reds relievers. The Reds have more blown saves (four) than saves (three). The walk-to-strikeout ratio is 1.30, the second worse in MLB.The Reds are 8-17 in their last 25 overall and the Pirates are 12-5 in their last 17 games as a favorite of -110 to -150. The Bucs win as a small favorite as the Reds struggle in relief yet again.
Free Pick: Pirates -112
St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets
Want to know how to pick an underdog when betting on baseball? Look for a pitcher that has had some struggles but it has not affected the value as of yet. Wacha is a good pitcher for the Red Birds but he has had some troubles of late and it only gets worse on the road where the Cardinals have won just 2 of his last seven starts. The Mets are 6-2 in their last 8 games when going up against a right-handed starter and they have some value in this meeting.
Free Pick: Mets +126
