The Bettor’s Box is a twice-a-week MLB betting podcast that breaks down the game in ways that no other show possibly could. Host Adam Burke uses sabermetrics and years of baseball observation to help listeners make money on the bases. With recordings on Monday and Thursday, this podcast goes in-depth on baseball betting to find advantages in the betting market and prepare listeners for the games ahead, including thoughts on the key series and pitching matchups.
Listeners of the show can also hit Adam up on Twitter at his handle, @SkatingTripods, to talk baseball betting, topics for the show, or any other sport at BangTheBook. He’s always willing to discuss baseball, as well as the other sports. Don’t hesitate to ask him for more clarification about sabermetrics or about the observations that he has seen in previous games.
This Thursday recording had the same segments that listeners have come to know and appreciate. The show began with a look Beyond the Box Score at two series featuring National League teams. The St. Louis Cardinals have had their way with the New York Mets over two of the three games played thus far. Has Adam’s opinion changed of either team?
The Arizona Diamondbacks have taken advantage of the toxic environment in Miami to grab three of the first four games in that series against the Marlins. What has been the difference for the Diamondbacks? What is holding the Marlins back? Are the Diamondbacks a dark horse contender in the NL West?
Line movement analysis is critical to see how the oddsmakers are thinking and how the betting market is thinking. Adam recapped some of the line movements from earlier this week and also talked about some line moves for Thursday’s action. This segment included a free pick for listeners for Thursday’s MLB betting card. It’s on an undervalued pitcher going up against a pitcher ticketed for Triple-A or the bullpen very soon.
Adam often fields questions about which stats to use when handicapping baseball. Two of his favorite stats come up on a regular basis, so he wanted to spend more time talking about xFIP and SIERA. Sabermetrics are a big part of Adam’s analysis and handicapping. If you want to be successful, it’s important to have a basic knowledge of these two concepts because they go just far enough below the surface that oddsmakers aren’t as willing to go there.
With a daily fantasy sports tip on something that you may not consider on a regular basis and a look ahead to the weekend, another top-notch recording of The Bettor’s Box is in the books.
