Chicago White Sox (9-14) vs. New York Yankees (12-7) MLB Betting Lines
Moneyline: Yankees (-131) White Sox (+121)
Starting Pitchers: White Sox (Floyd) Yankees (Nova)
Last night it was Phillip Humber who shut down the New York Yankees to get the White Sox back on the winning track. Humber took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against one of the best lineups in all of baseball. The White Sox still haven’t got on track offensively, but Ozzie Guillen and crew will definitely take a win however they can get it in Yankee Stadium. Will the offenses show up in this Tuesday night affair?
Gavin Floyd will be on the hill for the White Sox in this one. Floyd has not given up more than two earned runs in any of his last three starts against the Yankees. The White Sox have a couple clear problems right now: the bullpen, and the offense. Matt Thornton has been great in past years, but he has blown every save opportunity he has had so far this year. In the end, I think Thornton has the stuff to be a closer, but he needs to develop the mindset of a closer as well. The offense is full of guys struggling in a big way right now. Alex Rios tops the list of strugglers. Rios has one hit in his last 24 at bats. Gordon Beckham has three hits in his last 40 at bats. Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin have been the best hitters for this team so far this season.
New York is going to need Ivan Nova to turn it around. Nova has been hit hard in his last three outings. For the year, Nova has an ERA of 7.63. He often has problems with giving up big innings, which can be difficult to overcome. While the Yankees didn’t score a run in Monday night’s game, I have to think their offense will be just fine. Granderson is hitting the ball extremely well, and Alex Rodriguez is having a very good year as well. Derek Jeter is starting to heat up a bit, and if Brett Gardner and Jorge Posada start hitting this lineup will be extremely tough to tame. Mariano Rivera has blown a couple of saves recently, but his mechanics still look good. I think the Yankees bullpen is in good shape.
Floyd has pitched well against the Yankees of late, but I just don’t think the Yankees bats will be tamed for a second straight night. I expect a close game, but I think the White Sox are still struggling a little too much at the dish.
