The Miami University’s men’s basketball team will take to the road yet again as they look to wrap up a three game road stretch that concludes against the Xavier Musketeers.
The Redhawks have they to win a game this season and they currently find themselves in the cellar of the Mid American conference. It won’t be easy to get their first win of the season against an Xavier team that is a perfect 3-0 on the Big East Conference. The biggest difference in this game can be uncovered by looking at the stat sheet.
The Redhawks rank 165th in points per game. They only manage to score an average of just 58 points per contest and will be challenged against a demanding defense. The Musketeers are 23 rd in the country in points per game allowed as they average just over 59 points per game on the defensive end of the floor. For the Muskateers, the target will be sophomore guard Reggie Johnson.
Johnson exceeded the 20-point mark and set a career scoring high in his last outing. Johnson poured in 24 points at Arizona State to lead all players. He knocked down 9-of-16 field goals, also a career-high for Johnson. This was his second good game as he also managed to chip in 22 points in the season opener against Notre Dame. Johnson also tied a career high with five steals. Johnson notched five of Miami’s eight steals for the game, and he equaled the Sun Devils’ total team output.
While Johnson seems to be the lone scoring threat for the Redhawks, the Muskateers have a bevy of talent on the floor, each capable of putting up big numbers on any given night.
This Xavier team is 3-0 for a reason. The Musketeers are led by Semaj Christon, who averages 17.3 ppg. Matt Stainbrook averages a double-double with 10.7 ppg and a team-leading 10.3 rpg. Stainbrook also has seven blocked shots on the season. Isaiah Philmore follows, averaging 9.0 ppg. As a team, the Musketeers are outscoring their opponents by an average of 17.0 ppg and own an impressive .513 field goal percentage through three games. This team is well rounded and will be a very good basketball team.
Free Pick: Xavier
The Redhawks will be in a tough spot as they play their third road game in a row to start the season. When playing in Cincinnati, Xavier owns a 34-17 advantage in this series, and with the way they are playing, there is every reason to believe that this will be another big win for Xavier.
