NBA – December 5th
Miami may be the defending NBA champs and the top team in the East this season at 23-18 straight-up, but its performance on the road so far has left the team with a very mediocre record of 10-10. Overall, it is 20-21 against the spread including a costly 8-12 record ATS on the road. The total has gone OVER in five of its last seven games.
Behind LeBron James’ team-high 26.6 points a game the Heat are one of the highest scoring teams in the league with an average of 102.7 points. However, in their last seven road games they have been held to under 100 points six times. Miami is also one of the top shooting teams in the NBA but it shot just 40.6 percent from the field and 21.7 percent from three-point range in this past Sunday’s 100-98 double-overtime loss to Boston in a game it was favored on the road by 3.5 points.
The Nets remain hot on Miami’s heels in the race for the top spot in the conference at 27-18 SU (21-21-3 ATS) and win in this game would cut the current deficit to just two games. Brooklyn comes into this showdown 7-3 SU in its last 10 games and riding an eight-game winning streak at home after pounding Orlando 97-87 as a 9.5-point home favorite on Monday night. The total has stayed UNDER in four of its last six games.
Defense will be the name of the game against the Heat with Brooklyn holding its opponents to an average of just 94.4 points a game. Offensively, Brook Lopez leads the team in scoring with 18.6 points, but Deron Williams and Joe Johnson are each averaging over 17 points a game. The Nets bench has also been productive; accounting for 31 percent of the team’s total points per game.
Miami has already rolled over the Nets twice by a combined 43 points, but that was earlier in the season and at home. The Heat are struggling on the road because they are forgetting how to beat the better teams they face. Look for that to be the case again in this contest as Brooklyn uses the energy from the home-town crowd to pull out the SU win.
