An American Athletic Conference match-up will start Saturday’s college basketball betting action when the UConn Huskies play host to the Memphis Tigers at 12:00 ET inside the XL Center.
The Tigers beat the UCF Knights in their last outing 76-70 on Wednesday night. Memphis G Joe Jackson registered 18 points to go with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Jackson is averaging 14.6 points and 4.5 assists per game this season. Sophomore F Shaq Goodwin is the other key contributor for the Tigers averaging 12.5 points and 6.7 boards per game. Goodwin added 14 points and six rebounds in the win over UCF which was the third straight win for the Tigers. Memphis has one of the most potent offenses in the NCAA averaging 79.7 points per game which is good for No. 27 in the country. This team will welcome a road trip as they’re 4-2 ATS when playing away from FedEx Forum. However, the Tigers did fall to the SMU Mustangs 87-72 back on February 1st in their last road contest. Ranked No. 20 this week, Memphis figures to be challenged in this game as UConn will be trying to make up some ground in The American race. At 8-3 SU in conference play, the Tigers lead the Huskies (7-4 SU AAC) by just one game.
The Huskies are coming off a dominant win over the South Florida Bulls 83-40 on Wednesday night. Connecticut used a balanced offensive attack led by F DeAndre Daniels 12 points, five boards, and two blocks. Freshman F Kentan Facey came off the bench and added 10 points and four rebounds as the Huskies had this game in control in the second half. The defense was impressive for UConn holding South Florida to 24 percent shooting from the floor. The star for the Huskies is senior G Shabazz Napier who was actually quiet on Wednesday scoring just seven points and had five boards. Napier leads the team in all major statistical categories averaging 17.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game this season. Connecticut is 8-4 ATS on its home floor so far with an 11-2 SU record. Napier will definitely have to be a big part of the effort if they are to be successful against the Tigers. In the last meeting with Memphis back on January 16th, Napier had 17 points, 10 assists, and four rebounds in an 83-73 win for the Huskies on the road.
UConn should get another big game out of Daniels who had 23 points and 11 boards in the last meeting with Memphis. This will be the stiffest road challenge for the Tigers thus far, and we’re just not sure that they’re up to it. We like the Huskies to be too much for the Tigers on their home floor where they have beaten their last three opponents by an average of 34.6 points per game. We expect to see Connecticut get a big win and even up The American standings with Memphis. UConn 84 – Memphis 77
