The Georgia Bulldogs are favored at home on Sunday afternoon as they host the Marquette Golden Eagles on ESPN U. Both teams come into this game at 5-2 on the season with Marquette coming off a win against Western Carolina while Georgia is coming off a win against Morehead State. Let’s look at Sunday’s matchup and NCAA basketball picks.
The Golden Eagles visit the Bulldogs on Sunday, December 4th with a start time of 2 pm Eastern on ESPN U.
Marquette vs. Georgia
The Golden Eagles played really well on Wednesday as they routed Western Carolina 90-44. Andrew Rosey led the way with 21 points. The game was never in doubt as Marquette led 56-18 at the half. Marquette has fattened up in their last three games with easy games against Western Carolina, Houston Baptist and Indiana-Purdue. The Golden Eagles have yet to prove they can beat a good team as they have losses to Pittsburgh and Michigan.
Marquette comes into this game at 5-2 SU and 4-3 ATS. The Golden Eagles are scoring 87 points per game and allowing about 68 per contest. Jajuan Johnson leads the team in scoring at 14.3 points per contest.
Georgia also comes into this game with a record of 5-2 SU and they are 2-2 ATS. The Bulldogs have a similar resume to Marquette as they haven’t beaten anyone of note while losing to Kansas and Clemson. The Bulldogs are scoring 72 points per game and allowing about 67 per contest. Yante Maten leads the team in scoring at just over 20 points per game.
Georgia has played four home games against weak opposition and won by an average of 13 points per game but rarely have the games been easy as Georgia has started slow. The Bulldogs led by just seven, five, three and six points at the half. “I honestly couldn’t tell you what the exact reason is because everyone has a different reason,” junior forward Maten said. “There’s no whole answer for that. I have my own belief of what it could be, but I couldn’t tell you why the whole team is like that.”
The Bulldogs are not going to be able to continue to start slow and win as their schedule gets much tougher beginning with this game against Marquette on Sunday. The Bulldogs also have road games at Georgia Tech and Oakland before SEC play gets started on December 29th at Auburn.
NCAA Basketball Picks
Neither of these teams has proven anything as they both have lost to the good teams they have played. The difference is that Georgia was at least competitive in losses to Clemson and Kansas while Marquette was blown out by Michigan. The Bulldogs realize they have to start faster on Sunday and I expect them to get out to the early lead at home and put away Marquette. I will lay the points and take the Bulldogs in this Sunday afternoon matchup.
