Point Spread: Louisiana Lafayette -2
A week after going on the road and upsetting the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns are back at it on Tuesday night once again, as they can pretty much effectively wrap up the Sun Belt if they can do it again in Jonesboro against the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
There aren’t many competitors left for the Cajuns at this point. They have started at 2-0 in conference play, and if they can win this one, they will be essentially two up on the field. Only a home game with Troy or a road game against South Alabama might prove to be competitive, and there is a good chance that this team can finish at 10-2 and perhaps with some votes for the Top 25 as well. QB Terrance Broadway is the real deal, but last week, he was more or less used as a decoy passer. Broadway only put it in the air 12 times, and though he only threw for 90 yards, he also accounted for two of the four offensive TDs on the day for the Ragin’ Cajuns. RB Alonzo Harris and RB Elijah McGuire are the ones that really made this offense go against the Hilltoppers, and they have 759 yards and nine TDs on the ground in just six games between them.
Arkansas State has been through quite a bit in the last few years, and just making it to a bowl game this season would be a tremendous accomplishment. The team started off the Sun Belt season a month and a half ago against the Troy Trojans, winning 41-34, and since that point, the Red Wolves have pretty much done what they were figured to do in all of their games, save for getting blown away by the Memphis Tigers 31-7. The team dumped the Idaho Vandals with ease, but in the other games this season, it was killed by the Missouri Tigers and the Auburn Tigers. That makes it really difficult to sort of gauge where the Red Wolves really are. What we know is that QB Adam Kennedy has their offense rolling. Arkansas State is averaging 479.7 yards per game, and Kennedy has already thrown for 1,552 yards on the season. Keep a close eye on WR Julian Jones, who has 14 catches for 271 yards and two TDs combined in his last two games.
This has to be a game that Arkansas State wins to keep its hopes alive for the Sun Belt title, but we just don’t see it happening. Broadway will get the chance to put the ball in the air more often in this game, and this is yet another one of these typical Sun Belt teams without all that much of a defense that he is playing against. The Ragin’ Cajuns will storm to 5-2 on Tuesday night and notch a second straight ‘W’ on national television.
