The NBA begins a new week with an eight-game slate on Monday, January 30, so make sure to check out the best Lakers vs. Nets betting pick and odds.

Los Angeles will continue with a five-game road trip when they visit Brooklyn at Barclays Center. The Lakers are slight 1-point favorites on MyBookie Sportsbook, while the total is set at 233 points. These inter-conference rivals have met once this season, and the Lakers won 116-103 in Los Angeles.

Lakers fell short of the Celtics in OT

The Los Angeles Lakers (23-27, 24-25-1 ATS) opened their five-game road trip with a 125-121 overtime loss against the Boston Celtics. The Lakers had a 105-102 lead with a few seconds remaining in regulation, but Jaylen Brown made a tip shot and one to force overtime, in which the Celtics proved to be calmer. Los Angeles made only 15 free throws opposite Boston’s 34 and despite registering 12 more assists than the hosts (30-12), the Lakers ended up empty-handed.

LeBron James flirted with a triple-double as he led his team with a game-high 40 points (15-30 FG, 6-12 3PT, 5-6 FT), nine rebounds, and game-high eight assists. Anthony Davis posted a double-double of 16 points and team-high ten boards along with four dishes, Patrick Beverley had 15 points, five rebounds, five dimes, and two steals, while Dennis Schroder, Lonnie Walker, and Russell Westbrook all finished the game in double figures, combining for 38 points.

SG Austin Reaves (hamstring) is out indefinitely and will not feature on Monday against Brooklyn.

Shorthanded Nets beat the city rivals at home

The Brooklyn Nets (30-19, 23-24-2 ATS) snapped a two-game losing skid with a 122-115 home victory over the city rivals New York Knicks. It was the second win over the Knicks this season and the Nets were never trailing since the initial 1-0 lead for the visitors. The Nets shot 52.9% from the field and hit even 22 triples (55.0%) opposite New York’s ten, which made a difference in this one. Also, the hosts dominated in assists (31-19).

Kyrie Irving led Brooklyn with a game-high 32 points, game-high nine assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Joe Harris scored 16, Seth Curry added 14 points, Royce O’Neale had 14 points and five boards, while Nic Claxton recorded a double-double of 13 points and game-high 12 rebounds along with six dimes and game-high three blocks.

SF Kevin Durant (knee) is out indefinitely and will likely not return before the All-Star break. SF T.J. Warren (leg) and PG Ben Simmons (knee) are questionable to face the Lakers on Monday.

Trends:

Los Angeles:

  • 7-16-1 ATS in the last 24 games vs. a team with a winning straight-up record
  • 2-6 ATS in the last eight road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600

Brooklyn:

  • 4-1 ATS in the last five games overall
  • 4-1 ATS in the last five Monday games

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Brooklyn Nets Pick

The Lakers have a better offense than the Nets as they are averaging 117.1 points per game, which is the fifth-best offense in the NBA. Brooklyn is scoring 114.4 ppg, but the Nets’ defense is going to make a difference in this one. The hosts allow 111.7 ppg opposite Los Angeles’ 25th defense that allows 118.1 ppg, and the Nets will be looking to get revenge for an H2H loss earlier in the season, so I am backing them to cover. Kyrie Irving scored 30+ in six consecutive games, and he will continue to torment the opposing defense on Monday.

Pick: Take the Nets at +2.5 (-130)

The Total

The Lakers now have Anthony Davis back from an injury and it’s natural that they are scoring more points with him on the floor. With red-hot LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, who could easily combine for 60+ points here, I expect to see a high-scoring affair. Brooklyn is 7th when it comes to offensive rating with 115.9 points per 100 possessions. Over is 13-5 in the Lakers’ last 18 road games; Over is 3-0-1 in the Nets’ previous four overall, while Over is 5-1 in Brooklyn’s last six home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

Pick: Go Over 231.5 points (-130)
