The Stanley Cup Finals will continue on Monday night in NHL betting action when the Los Angeles Kings travel to face the New York Rangers on NBC Sports Network at 8:00 p.m. ET on the ice inside the world famous Madison Square Garden. The Kings went up in this series 2-0 after a double overtime victory on Sunday at home.
The Kings came back from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime and it took a second OT period for them to pull out the 5-4 win. Dustin Brown tipped home a slap pass from Willie Mitchell that sent the home crowd into a frenzy. Trailing 4-2 in the third period Los Angeles got goals from Dwight King and Marian Gaborik that forced the game into the extra period. It was another tough night for G Jonathan Quick as he saved just 27-of-31 shots in regulation, but stopped all nine he saw in the overtimes to get his 14th win of the postseason. Los Angeles has yet to lead a single moment of regulation in this series, but has been able to score skate-off goals to build a lead that has it at -600 ‘odds’ to win the Stanley Cup. The Kings have been amazing on the road as they are 7-3 in the playoffs including wins in three Game 7’s away from home. They have the league’s best scoring offense putting up 3.52 goals per game in the postseason and have bailed out their goalie’s less than stellar play to be this close to a second championship in three seasons.
The Rangers have let leads slip in the first two games of this series to fall in a hole that they may not be able to dig themselves out of in time. Ryan McDonagh and Mats Zuccarello struck for goals in the opening period that appeared to give their team control of the game. However, G Henrik Lundqvist has shown that he can’t hold leads in back-to-back games now as the 2.03 GAA he had coming into this series is up to a 2.16 after facing a potent Kings offense. Lundqvist was peppered with 44 shots in Game 2 as he managed to stop 39 of them, but he will have to do much better than that to enable his team to get back into this series. In the seven games that have gone ‘under’ the ‘total’ this postseason the Rangers are 4-3 in those contests and that is exactly what they’ll need to turn things around. It will be crucial for them to get power play opportunities in this one as their unit has been effective of late.
The Rangers are in a do-or-die situation here as they head back to the Big Apple for what will be a most important challenge to overcome. The ‘favorite’ is 2-0 so far in this series and New York will be trying to keep that mark unblemished on Monday night. However, the Kings have an amazing thing going and we just don’t think the Rangers are the team to stop them. We expect to see Los Angeles grab complete control of this series and take a 3-0 lead to make you some ‘underdog’ money on the road. Los Angeles Kings @ New York Rangers Pick: Los Angeles Kings
