The Stanley Cup Finals will continue on Wednesday night in NHL betting action when the New York Rangers play host to the Los Angeles Kings on NBC Sports Network at 8:00 p.m. ET on the ice inside Madison Square Garden. The Rangers will be trying to avoid a sweep as they come in the ‘favorites’ to extend this series back to Los Angeles.
The Kings looked completely unbeatable in a dominant 3-0 win in Game 3 as they grabbed an early lead and never looked back. Jeff Carter got things started as he scored to give his team a 1-0 lead in the first period. Then Jake Muzzin and Mike Richards both found the back of the net in the second period for goals that would effectively put the game out of reach. Los Angeles recorded just 15 shots on goal in the win which was its fewest of the series, but it still managed to be successful. Kings G Jonathan Quick put up his first shutout of the Finals as he saved all 32 shots he saw from the Rangers. If Quick has another night like this there’s no chance for New York to get a win on its home ice. Like clockwork the Kings are scoring 3.50 goals per game as they lean on an offensive attack that has four of the top five point scorers in the playoffs. Now just one win away from a second Stanley Cup in three years the only question is will they win it in the Big Apple as they are 8-3 in their L/11 on the road.
The Rangers couldn’t get anything going on Monday night and now they’re in a hole so deep that Vegas has taken down ‘odds’ on their chances of winning this series. There really isn’t much to say about this team other than they appear to have folded up their tent for the season. It has been a Cinderella run for New York as it had to beat three tough teams to get to this point and it has done that by playing outstanding on both ends of the ice. In Game 3 there was none of that as the Kings had only limited opportunities to score goals and G Henrik Lundqvist couldn’t make the stops when his team needed them. Lundqvist had only 12 saves in the loss and the Rangers only chance to get a win at home is for him to have the biggest game of his life on Wednesday. New York is just 2-5 in the L/7 meetings in Madison Square Garden and it must find a way to reverse that trend so it can get back on a plane to Los Angeles.
The Kings have given us no reason not to like their chances to pull off a four game sweep of a seemingly worn out group of Rangers. In earlier rounds they became the only team to ever win three consecutive Game 7’s on the road and have yet to flinch when playing away from the Staples Center. Unless there’s some sort of complete letdown in its play we expect to see Los Angeles dominate once again to bring home the Stanley Cup to Hollywood.
