The NLCS shifts to Wrigley Field on Tuesday night for Game 3, as the Los Angeles Dodgers visit the Chicago Cubs on TBS. It is virtually a must-win game for the Cubs, as they trail the best-of-seven series 2-0. The Cubs are turning to Kyle Hendricks on Tuesday, while the Dodgers will counter with Yu Darvish. Let’s look at Game 3 and MLB picks.
The Los Angeles Dodgers visit the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, October 17 in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series, with a start time of 9:00 pm Eastern on TBS.
Dodgers vs. Cubs
The Dodgers complete shut down the Cubs in the first two games of this series as the Chicago offense went cold. Unless the Cubs get Bryant and Rizzo going, this series is over. The one advantage the Cubs should have is their offense, but so far in this series the Cubs have scored a total of three runs. The Cubs were 48-33 in the regular season at home, so they do have a solid home field advantage, but the Dodgers were a good road team, as they went 47-34 in the regular season.
Probable Pitching Matchup – Darvish vs. Hendricks
Darvish is 10-12 on the season with a 3.86 ERA. He allowed one run on two hits in the NLDS against the Diamondbacks in five innings. He walked none and struck out seven in that outing. He has faced the Cubs once in his career and that came last year, as he allowed two runs in 4.1 innings.
Hendricks is 7-5 with a 3.03 ERA. He was excellent in the NLDS against the Nationals, as he went seven scoreless innings. He was great against the Dodgers in last year’s NLCS, as he went 7.1 innings and allowed no runs.
The Dodgers are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago. The Dodgers are 5-0 in their last 5 playoff games. The Dodgers are 7-1 in their last 8 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Dodgers are 4-1 in their last 5 road games. The Dodgers are 20-6 in their last 26 games following an off day. The Dodgers are 6-13 in their last 19 playoff road games.
The Cubs are 19-7 in their last 26 home games. The Cubs are 44-18 in their last 62 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Cubs are 4-1 in Hendricks’ last 5 starts.
The Under is 4-0-1 in the Dodgers last 5 road games. The Under is 5-2-1 in the Dodgers last 8 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Under is 4-0 in the Cubs last 4 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Under is 6-1 in the Cubs last 7 playoff home games. The Under is 6-1 in Hendricks’ last 7 starts overall. The Under is 12-2 in the last 14 meetings in Chicago.
I think the Dodgers will ultimately win this series, but I think the Cubs will show up with a big effort on Tuesday night and show some life. The price is definitely fair, as the Cubs are just a slight home favorite and Hendricks has been a reliable starter. I will take Chicago on Tuesday night to get back into this series.
