NCAA Football – Week 4
MAC rivals meet in what will be the first college football betting affair of the weekend, when the Kent State Golden Flashes take on the Buffalo Bulls at UB Stadium.
Kent State doesn’t have much in the way of high hopes this year for a bowl game, but if this is a game that is won, it would be a great start to the MAC season. The team hasn’t gotten much in the way of offense this year at just 338.0 yards per game, and that doesn’t seem to be changing any time in the near future for a club that routinely ranks in the bottom 50 in the nation in virtually every major offensive category. The Golden Flashes only have one passing touchdown in two games, and that came from backup QB David Fisher. The starter, QB Spencer Keith, has thrown for 309 yards and has averaged just 5.0 yards per pass attempt. The key is going to be on the ground, where RBs Trayion Durham and Dri Archer are going to carry the load. These two have combined for 273 yards and four scores this year.
UB hasn’t been worth all that much, save for the one year that Turner Gill led it to the MAC Championship, but this might be a slightly different year. The team is moving the ball up and down the field right now, and there are hopes that, in the relatively weak MAC East, that the team can perhaps win seven games this year and get one of those at large bowl bids. The Bulls hung in there against the Georgia Bulldogs and at least put some points on the board, and they did drop 56 against the Morgan State Bears the next week. Watch out for WR Alex Neutz. Neutz does it all for the Bulls, and he is really the only reliable target for QB Alex Zordich. Neutz already has 13 catches for 206 yards and five trips to the end zone this year, and he is surely going to be in for another great game. RB Brandon Oliver has 349 yards and is averaging 6.3 yards per carry as well. Zordich is a dual threat, and he has not just 385 yards and five TDs through the air, but 93 more with a TD on the ground as well.
Buffalo has the better of these two teams, and with some high hopes and home field advantage on its side, it should be able to post a relatively easy victory against the Golden Flashes, who we hope used the extra few days off to remind the punt coverage team which way was the right way to run the ball in the event that they recover a fumble.
