Match-up : Ivory Coast vs Morocco
Date : 11/11/2017
Time : 13:30 EDT (18:30 GMT)
Spread : Morocco +0.5
Total : 1.75 Goals
The two top teams in the CAF World Cup Qualifier Group C will battle against one another for a spot in the World Cup, when Ivory Coast will play host to Morocco. Morocco are currently leading the group with 9 points, and they would need a draw or a win to seal the top spot, while the Ivory Coast can only qualify with a win here. Morocco have yet to concede a single goal in this stage, and the Ivorians know that they are in for a tough ride here.
Ivory Coast Preview :
Ivory Coast (2-2-1) have been really strong in the World Cup Qualifiers so far, as their only loss was a really frustrating 1-2 at home against a 10-man Gabon side.
They started off with a nice 3-1 win over Mali, only to be held to a goal-less draw against Morocco in the 2nd Match-day.
They did destroy Gabon by 0-3 on the road before that 1-2 reverse at home against the same team, before a goal-less draw against Mali in their most recent match.
Ivory Coast are now sitting at the 2nd spot of Group C with 8 points, one point behind Morocco. They only need a win here, as any other result would leave them eliminated.
They do have a couple of good players in their roster, like Swansea’s Bony, Manchester United’s Bailly, Watford’s Dja Djedje, Tottenham’s Aurier, Milan’s Kessie and Crystal Palace’s Zaha.
Morocco Preview :
Morocco (2-3-0) didn’t actually make the best of starts in the World Cup Qualifiers, as they were held to a couple of goal-less draws against Gabon and Ivory Coast in their first two matches.
However, they possess an elite defense that has yet to concede a single goal after 5 matches. They have also played for a goal-less draw against Mali on the road, but prior to that they had b lasted them by a massive 6-0 at home.
Morocco are now sitting at the top of Group C with 9 points, having scored 9 goals against none conceded. Even a draw here would be enough to grant them qualification to the World Cup.
Morocco’s elite defense is lead by Juventus’ Benatia, while Real Madrid’s wonderkid Hakimi and Fenerbahce’s Dirar are some of the quality players they have. Moreover, they have Galatasaray’s Belhanda, Southampton’s Boufal, amd Feyenoord’s El Ahmadi.
Ivory Coast vs Morocco Head-to-Head Stats :
The two teams played for a goal-less draw in Morocco in the first round of the World Cup Qualifiers. Moreover, they also met in the Africa Cup of Nations on January, where Morocco won by a slim 1-0.
However, it is Ivory Coast who have had the upper hand against Morocco over the years (3-5-2), having also remained undefeated at home (1-2-0).
There have been Under 2.5 Goals in 7 of the 10 matches between the two sides over the years, and in each of the last 4.
However, there have been goals from both sides in all 3 matches in Ivory Coast, while only one match featured Over 2.5 Goals.
Ivory Coast vs Morocco Prediction :
Ivory Coast do have some really good players in their squad, not only with international experience, but who also play in some of the best leagues in the world. However, Morocco have been excellent so far in the qualifiers, and their defense is still unscathed. Ivory Coast know that they only need a win here, so this is going to be a fierce battle between the two.
Ivory Coast vs Morocco Betting Tips :
Morocco will be looking to extend their undefeated streak here, as it would send them straight to the World Cup. The odds on the Over/Under are really low to follow, in what is expected to be a very careful match between the two sides. I will take the Draw here @ 2.95, as Morocco will play massive defense once again.
