When the Super Bowl rolls around bettors are faced with hundreds of different betting propositions, ranging from the game itself to wagers about halftime, pregame activities and post-game celebrations. It’s a bit different for the Indoor Football League, where the big betting news for next week’s United Bowl is that a total has been posted on the game, making it the first game all season to have an over/under posted.
The game itself is actually a pretty good one, at least on paper, where the Sioux Falls Storm travels to Iowa to face the Barnstormers on Saturday, July 7. Iowa clinched the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, which gave them the right to host the game, while Sioux Falls had to go on the road and upset Arizona to reach the title game. Iowa is favored by 4 and the total on the game is 95.
Iowa was 11-3 for the season and 7-1 at home, where it was Sioux Falls, who handed the Barnstormers their lone loss back on March 18 with a 52-40 victory. Sioux Falls had a 290-234 yardage advantage and neither team made a turnover in a game that wasn’t decided until the Storm scored with 38 seconds remaining after Iowa pulled within five points in the final minute.
The Barnstormers took the rematch in Sioux Falls, 49-42, after jumping out to a 21-0 lead and seeing Sioux Falls rally back to pull in front, but then scoring back-to-back touchdowns to open the fourth quarter and take the win.
Sioux Falls took a 51-49 decision in front of the home fans, scoring the final 20 points of the game, including an 18-0 fourth quarter and won the game on a safety, as there were three safety recorded in the game, two by Sioux Falls and one by Iowa. The last came with no time on the clock when Sioux Falls blocked a field goal attempt.
I made this one 45-41 in favor of Iowa. Sioux Falls is better offensively, ranking No. 2 out of the six teams in the league in points scored, while Iowa is No. 1 in defensive points allowed. Iowa was third in scoring, while Sioux Falls was third in defense, numbers that are to be expected when you have three 11-3 teams, with everybody else 4-10 or worse.
Will side with the under in this one, although it’s far from a big play, but basically just going off the numbers and the scores of the first three meetings between the two teams.
