Mid-Eastern foes will lock horns when the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (6-16) play the Howard Bison (10-11) at William P Hytche Athletic Center. Action begins at 7:00 pm ET on Monday, Feb. 1 and can be seen on ESU and ES3.
The Hawks enter this game hoping for similar success after edging Coppin State 83-81 on Saturday. Dontae Caldwell was the game’s leading scorer with 25 points on 10-for-12 shooting. The Bison, meanwhile, are feeling some disappointment after their demoralizing 83-63 loss against Morgan State on Saturday. Marcel Boyd had a good game for Howard, registering 17 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.
The attacking Howard offense may see plenty of chances from the free throw line in this one. It ranks fifth in the nation at getting to the stripe (FTA rate of 48.8), while Maryland Eastern Shore gets whistled quite a bit (giving up a 335th-ranked FTA rate of 47.0).
Maryland Eastern Shore is a slim one-point favorite at home against Howard. The matchup has an estimated Over/Under (O/U) of 147 points.

The Hawks are 2-1 Against The Spread (ATS), but have a SU record of 6-16. The Hawks have seen an uptick in scoring as of late, averaging 74.1 points during the last 10 games compared to their season average of 66.1 points per game.
As for their opponent, it’s hard to argue with the ATS failures of Howard. The Bison are clearly doing something wrong with a 0-1 record ATS to go along with a 9-11 record SU. The Bison get to the line and convert their free throws at a high volume, ranking fifth in the nation with 442 made (21.0 per game).
These conference foes will be squaring off for the first time this season. In their most recent meeting a season ago, Maryland Eastern Shore came out on top, but the win was not enough to overtake Howard in their recent head-to-head series. Its record is now 4-6 SU over the last few meetings. Maryland Eastern Shore and Howard each held the advantage in field goals, rebounds, and three-pointers one time over the last five matchups.
