Game Overview

The Houston Texans and the Denver Broncos are going to fight it out in a battle on the NFL betting lines in Week 3 against one another in the national game of the week on CBS.

Every now and again, a team has to learn how to lose a big game before it can learn to win one. The Texans figured out how to lose that close game against a great team last year on the road when they were beaten by the Baltimore Ravens. However, put QB Matt Schaub in that game in the place of QB TJ Yates, who really did everything that he could to get the job done, and perhaps the story would be a lot different. That’s what Houston is banking on now that it is healthy. The team is 2-0, but it basically feels like the Texans have had the equivalent schedule to what the Florida State Seminoles have had in college. Two nobodies. And now it’s time for the big boys to be on the slate. RB Arian Foster and RB Ben Tate are both just running right through defenses at the moment, and last week, the Houston defense held the Jags under 100 yards for the first 55 minutes of the game.

Denver has had a lot going against it this week, as it has gone from a two point favorite to a two point dog. QB Peyton Manning has looked sharp for the most part, save for the three picks that he threw in the first 14 minutes against the Atlanta Falcons last week on Monday Night Football. Still, it is apparent that he just doesn’t have the receivers that he once had when he was with the Indianapolis Colts, though he does have a fantastic defense that has underachieved. DE Elvis Dumervil just hasn’t gotten going this year, and he doesn’t have a sack yet. Meanwhile, LB Von Miller is going to be a terror to try to stop. He has three sacks already this year, and he is going to be on Schaub’s back all game long. The question is going to be whether Manning and RB Willis McGahee are going to be able to get going against this Houston defense, which is clearly one of the best in the NFL.

There have only been three games played between these two teams all-time, and all three have gone to the home team from both an SU and an ATS perspective. The Broncos just feel like they have gotten a bad rap over the course of the last few days, and we think that they are going to prove that they are still one of the elite teams in the NFL by beating the Texans in what should be a gritty game. Denver 20 – Houston 19
