The Capitals fought back from deficits of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 in Game 6 at home of this series, but they just weren’t able to get the job done when push came to shove in overtime. It was good to see Alexander Ovechkin getting back on the board, doing so in the third period, just as it was good to see Nicklas Backstrom getting a pair of assists, but there is still just something a bit wrong with this team. It was really the first game in this series in which there was a level of doubt about the play of Braden Holtby. He allowed four goals on just 31 shots, and though it clearly wasn’t the worst game in the world, it certainly wasn’t the greatest either. Now, with Michal Neuvirth back and available, the question is there as to whether he would be called off of the bench in this do-or-die game against the Bruins should Holtby struggle just a bit early on. This is a tremendous game for Head Coach Dale Hunter to get this team out of the first round of the playoffs, and if this game is lost, it will be a disaster for a team that just hasn’t had a bunch of luck in the postseason.

Bet on MLB at BetOnlineThe Bruins have now fought off five elimination games over the course of the last five series that they have played, and they now are amongst the favorites once again to win the Stanley Cup. Again, Tim Thomas didn’t have the greatest game in the world either, but considering how many times he has picked up the rest of his team, it was about time that the team picked him up. This was a terrible series for the offense until Game 6, when all of the big time scorers finally showed up in a huge way. Four different players had a goal and an assist in this one, and the big time names were the ones that got the job done. Tyler Seguin, Andrew Ference, David Krejci, and Rich Peverley all got the job done, and Seguin was the one that finally put in the game winner at 3:17 of the overtime period. Milan Lucic had a great assist in the OT period to get into the act as well. These are the players that have to continue to score to get through this series.

The Final Word: Oh, Washington… The Capitals just don’t have the ability to get the job done in the playoffs, and it seems no matter what they do, they just aren’t able to advance in games like this one. The Bruins are the anti-Capitals, and they are going to be moving on to the second round of the playoffs.
