Many figured that the Predators had to find a way to win all four games in this series at Bridgestone Arena to stick around in the playoffs. They did their job in Game 1, but in the end, they weren’t able to get the mini-sweep at home. The 3-2 loss on Friday night marked the first loss that Nashville has had in this series after three straight wins, and it knows that it needs to get back on the boat in a hurry, or it will go back to the Music City down 3-1 in this series later in the week. Pekka Rinne has had a great history against the Red Wings in his career, as it isn’t all that often that he gives up more than two or three goals against them. That being said, he has had his flaws in this series in spite of the fact that at times, he has had matters relatively easy thanks to the defense in front of him. Nashville needs to get more shots in general on net, because 26 in each of the first two games isn’t going to cut it against a team with this much talent, especially offensively.
The Red Wings won 31 of their 41 home games this year, but if you take out that new NHL record 23-game winning streak that they had in this building earlier this year, they are really a very mortal team. Detroit looked to be in some trouble after a 3-2 loss in Game 1 in this series, but in the end, it was able to fire back and get the ‘W’ to flip home ice advantage. That was the tough part for the Red Wings, who only won 17 games on the road all year and frequently went relatively long stretches of road games without wins. Interestingly enough, it has been the defense that has really been good for the Wings. They have killed off all 12 penalties that they have taken here thus far in the playoffs, and they have made up for the fact that they have had three periods of five shots or fewer, numbers which are very unlike that of a Detroit team that is used to putting up some of the biggest offensive numbers in the league.
Nashville Predators @ Detroit Red Wings Pick: This series has been brutally close all season long. Amazingly, six of the eight meetings have landed exactly on five goals, and half of those have ended 3-2 one way or the other. We expect more close hockey here in Motown, and that being said, it is clear to us that the Predators are the team that should be backed at these types of hockey odds.
