The Blackhawks are going to open up the second season on the road, and they are going to do so against whichever teams ends up winning the Pacific Division. They are locked into the No. 6 seed, and this probably is a game in which they are going to end up taking it easy, especially with the inevitably long road trip ahead next week to start the playoffs. We might see Jonathan Toews back in the fold for this one for the first time since the middle of February, but if he plays, we don’t think it will be all that much, knowing that he has been sitting out with a concussion. Corey Crawford might give it a go in an effort to get his 30th win of the season, but in all likelihood, it is going to be Ray Emery in net. We have seen the Hawks play a heck of a lot of hockey of late. They have played five of their last seven games into overtime, and four of their last five have ended in shootouts.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings are going to have a heck of a lot more on their plate for their final game of the year. They’ll be scoreboard watching, as they need the Nashville Predators to drop at least a point on the road to the Colorado Avalanche. If they do, Detroit will be in the driver’s seat to gain home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. We already know that Detroit and Nashville are going to be playing each other, but considering the fact that these two teams have combined to go 56-17-7 this year at home against just a 38-37-6 mark on the road, getting Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 at home would be a huge advantage. The big problem for this team has come with its offense. Unlike in years past, when the sheer depth on the roster has been able to produce just a ton of goals, of late, this unit really has struggled. The team has just seven goals scored in its last five games, and it should go without saying that it has no wins in regulation and just two shootout victories to show for its efforts in this stretch.

Chicago Blackhawks @ Detroit Red Wings Pick: The Red Wings are going to be under a lot more pressure in this one, but in this case, we think that they are going to find a way to get the job done. We aren’t sure whether it will translate to the No. 4 seed in the West or not, but we do think that they are going to at least put the pressure on Nashville later in the day.
