The CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament meeting between the Marshall Thundering Herd (21-14) and the Hampton Pirates (18-16) will be played at Henderson Center. Marshall opened as a 5-point favorite, while the game’s Over/Under (O/U) has been set at 174 points. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.

In the Pirates’ last game, they were victorious over the NJIT Highlanders, 82-70. With 19 points and 10 rebounds, Hampton’s Greg Heckstall had a solid game. Hampton dominated nearly every stat category in the game. They had a ridiculous offensive rebounding percentage of 38.9 (above their season average of 27.8) and a free throw rate of 0.224 (below their season average of 0.283). For those same stats, NJIT was 24.0 and 0.145, respectively.
The Thundering Herd will look to keep it rolling after beating the Presbyterian Blue Hose in their last matchup, 83-66. With 20 points on 9-for-17 shooting, C.J. Burks was the top scorer from either team. Marshall played a nearly flawless game. They had a superb free throw rate of 0.317 (above their season average of 0.217) and a turnover percentage of 10.2 (better than their season average of 14.7). For those same stats, Presbyterian was 0.123 and 17.6, respectively.
There should be plenty of transition offense in this meeting that features two of the nation’s more fast-paced teams. Marshall currently ranks sixth in possessions per game (75.9) and Hampton is 19th (73.9). Also, the Pirates rank 12th in turnover percentage (15.0 percent), while the Thundering Herd rank 43rd in opponents’ turnover percentage (21.6 percent).
Of Hampton’s 30 games that accepted bets, 17 have finished over the projected point total, while 18 of Marshall’s 35 games have finished under the O/U total. The Thundering Herd hold the significant advantage straight up (SU) (21-14 vs. 18-16), but the Pirates have been superior against the spread (ATS) (17-12-1 vs. 13-22).
Both teams have had a player heat up over their last five games. For the Pirates, it’s been Greg Heckstall, who has averaged 12 points,9.2 rebounds,3.6 assists, while the Thundering Herd have gotten solid contributions from Jon Elmore (21 points,8.4 rebounds,6.8 assists,2.4 steals).
