Green Bay Packers at New York Jets Betting Preview
New York is the home underdog in this game and is currently receiving 1 point. The Packers are also receiving -115 moneyline odds while the Jets are -105. Vegas has set the over/under (O/U) at 45 points. If one team can create a bunch of points early, it’ll probably generate a nice betting opportunity in-game.
Sharp bettors are siding with the under, as the game’s O/U was set originally at 46.
The disappointing Packers are down 11.1 units so far and 5-8-1 against the spread (ATS). The team’s posted an O/U record of 7-7.
The Jets have lost 6.4 units for moneyline bettors this season. They’re 5-8-1 ATS and nine of their games have gone over the total.
The Packers have gone 5-8-1 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the Jets are 4-10 SU.
The Packers look to get back on track after a 24-17 defeat to Chicago last week where the defense allowed the Bears to pass for 235 yards and rush for 97 yards. Jordan Howard had a productive day for the Bears in that one with 60 rushing yards and a score on 19 attempts. Offensively, Aaron Rodgers completed 25-of-42 passes for 274 yards and one interception. Jamaal Williams (55 yards on 12 rushes, one TD) led the ground attack while Davante Adams (eight receptions, 119 yards) and Williams (four catches, 42 yards) handled the receiving duties in the defeat.
New York just fell 29-22 to Houston in Week 15. The defensive secondary let the Texans air it out for 294 yards and two touchdowns. DeAndre Hopkins was on a different level for Houston, putting up 170 yards and two touchdowns on 10 catches. For New York, Sam Darnold completed 24-of-38 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Elijah McGuire (42 rushing yards on 18 attempts, one TD) handled the running game as Robby Anderson (seven receptions, 96 yards, one TD) and Cannon (three catches, 24 yards) led the receiving corps in the loss.
Green Bay has run the ball on 35.5 percent of its offensive possessions this year while New York has a rush percentage of 44.3 percent. The Packers have produced 107 rush yards/game and have 11 scores on the ground this year. The Jets are putting up 105 rushing yards per game and have 10 total rush TDs.
It seems like the Jets ought to be the more disruptive team in the trenches, since their offensive line has yielded only 31 sacks while the D-line has logged 34 sacks. The Packers offensive line has given up 46 sacks and their defense has got to opposing signal-callerss on just 41 occasions.
The Packers offense has tallied 288 yards/game in the air overall and has 23 passing TDs so far. The Jets have recorded 207 pass yards per outing and have 15 total pass scores.
Defensively, Green Bay has let opponents run for an average of 124 yards and throw for 247 yards per game. The New York D has allowed 261.9 yards per game to opposing passers and 125.9 yards per game to opposing runners. Both teams allow similar adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) to opponents, as the Packers have given up an ANY/A of 6.64 to opposing QBs, while the Jets are yielding an ANY/A of 6.22.
Rodgers has amassed 3,778 passing yards this season. He’s connected on 311-of-505 attempts with 21 passing touchdowns and only two interceptions. Rodgers has a 7.03 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number is 4.72 over the last two games.
The Packers will likely try to maintain the pace by pounding the defense with their running backs. In addition to receiver Davante Adams (1,234 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns), Aaron Jones (650 rush yards, seven rush TDs, one receiving TD) and Jamaal Williams (348 rush yards, two rush TDs, 133 receiving yards) have really been focal points in the offensive scheme for Green Bay.
On the other sideline, Sam Darnold has completed 183-of-327 passes for 2,187 yards, 13 TDs and 14 INTs. Darnold’s ANY/A stands at a mediocre 4.74 for the year and 6.35 over his last two games.
The Jets will also try to control the game’s pace by turning to their backfield. In addition to Robby Anderson (512 receiving yards, four receiving TDs), Elijah McGuire (140 rush yards, one rush TD, 96 receiving yards) and Chris Herndon (398 receiving yards and three TDs) have seen a lot of looks lately.
