Game Overview

The St. Louis Cardinals are going to take their second shot at closing out the NLCS on Sunday night at AT&T Park when they fight it out on the MLB betting odds against the San Francisco Giants.

The Cardinals really know that they don’t want this to get to a Game 7 on the road, but their bats are going to have to do better tonight than they did against Barry Zito on Friday night. Carlos Beltran was back in the lineup for Game 4, though he only went 1-for-4 in a very quiet night. The man on the mound on Sunday is going to be Chris Carpenter for the second time in this series. He had a nightmarish start against the G-Men, as he lasted just four frames and allowed six hits and two walks. Of the five runs that he allowed, three were unearned, but here in the playoffs, runs are runs, and they all come back to bite you in the backside. Carpenter hasn’t pitched more than six innings in a start this year, and this is a spot where he really needs to do a heck of a lot more if he is going to win this game.

San Fran has some momentum thanks to the heroics of Zito, who pitched the game of his life against the Cardinals in one of the biggest starts of his career. There is still a heck of a lot more to do if the Giants are going to come all the way back and make it to the World Series. It starts with a great game from Ryan Vogelsong, who is going to be the starter on Friday night. There haven’t been many pitchers on this team that have put together two respectable starts for the G-Men here in the postseason, but Vogelsong has done the job. He hasn’t been remarkable, but he has allowed just two runs and seven hits in 12.0 innings of work. The righty hasn’t always been the best, but he did go 14-9 this season with a 3.37 ERA in the regular season.

This one is for the Birds. We do think that the Cardinals have the better of the two teams, and as long as they win this series at some point and we keep backing them, we’re going to be winners. St. Louis 3 – San Francisco 2
