Game 3 San Antonio @ Utah Basketball Pick

San Antonio Spurs3

The Utah Jazz have proven to be no match for the San Antonio Spurs over the course of the first two games of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. They’ll try for a third time to beat the NBA betting lines in the playoffs here in Game 3 on Saturday night.

There is still a bit of a question as to whether the Spurs are this good or whether the Jazz are just this bad and this overmatched here in the playoffs. What we do know about Head Coach Gregg Popovich is that he is going to use his bench and use it effectively over the course of the whole postseason, regardless of whether his team is playing well or not. Every single man on the bench played at least 75% of a quarter of total game time on Wednesday night for Game 2 of this series, and save for Matt Bonner, they all had at least two buckets. Tim Duncan had another double-double, as he was one of the five starters that all reached at least 11 points in this game, and he also had 13 boards. Tony Parker was the team’s high scorer at 18 points. Normally speaking, you think of a team having a high scorer in a playoff game of 18 and you think that the team got killed. Not the case with the Spurs, who really rarely have a man score more than about 20 in a game at this point due to the fact that so many are constantly rotating in and out of the lineup.

We really do feel bad for the Jazz, and we know if they are going to come up with the effort to win a game in this series, this is going to be the time that it happens. That being said, someone is going to have to step up and score more than 10 points in a game in this series, and that didn’t happen in Game 2’s debacle in the Lone Star State on Hump Day. The starters were dominated, but if there was a bit of a shred of hope, it is that both Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter played quite well. Favors had nine points and nine boards in 21 minutes, while Kanter had eight points and 10 rebounds, including six offensive boards. Perhaps it is time that these two get some more playing time, as they are clearly the two that are going to have to lead this team into the future, parlayed with Gordon Hayward, DeMarre Carroll, and other top draft picks over the course of the last few years.

The Final Word: In the end, we just don’t see the Jazz having enough sheer talent to stick around with the Spurs. If San Antonio wants to win this game by 30, it will, and that’s exactly what we saw when these two teams played on Wednesday night. Though we expect Utah to get off to a bit of a better start in this game, in the end, we just don’t see it happening. The Spurs are on their way to one of the most dominating sweeps that we have ever seen.
