french open tennis picksThe French Open gets underway on Sunday with Rafael Nadal favored on the men’s side, while Simona Halep is the favorite on the women’s side. Nadal is the clear choice for the men, as he is looking to win his 10th career French Open title. His only competition might come from Novak Djokovic who is the second choice in the betting. On the women’s side, Halep is the 3-1 favorite, but she is dealing with an ankle injury and no guarantee to play. Let’s look at the tournament and French Open predictions.

The French Open takes place at Roland Garros in Paris, France from May 28th through June 11th with television coverage on NBC and Tennis Channel.

Men’s French Open Odds

Rafael Nadal 5-6

Novak Djokovic 3-1

Gael Monfils 80-1

All other players are listed with odds of 100-1 or more or they are part of the field.

The 2017 French Open should be all about Rafael Nadal who is trying to win his 10th career title. He is having a very good season and has been known as the best clay court player in the world for more than a decade. His chief competition is expected to come from Novak Djokovic who is the defending champion.

The only other possible threat to Nadal could come from Dominic Thiem who beat him in Rome.  Roger Federer is not playing, Andy Murray has played poorly this season and Stan Wawrinka hasn’t done anything of late.

French Open Picks

Nadal is the clear choice to win this year’s tournament.

Women’s French Open Odds

Angelique Kerber 12-1

Agnieszka Radwanska 40-1

Dominika Cibulkova 40-1

Kiki Bertens 40-1

Coco Vandeweghe 50-1

Sam Stosur 50-1

A Pavlyuchenkova 60-1

Ekaterina Makarova 75-1

Jelena Ostapenko 80-1

Monica Puig 80-1

Sloane Stephens 80-1

All other players are listed with odds of 100-1 or more or they are part of the field.

The top choice in the betting odds to win the French Open on the women’s side is Halep but she has an ankle injury and her status for playing this event is up in the air. Halep has been practicing with the ankle taped and she may try to play. If she was healthy she would be the obvious choice with Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova not playing.

If Halep isn’t healthy then picking a winner is much more difficult because there are no obvious choices. Elina Svitolina has won four times this season but she hasn’t faced Grand Slam pressure, defending champion Garbine Muguruza has not played well since winning last year’s tournament and number one Angelique Kerber has rarely played well on clay. Perhaps the second seed, Karolina Pliskova can make a deep run but taking longshots looks to be the way to go on the women’s side.

French Open Picks

I will take Kuznetsova at odds of 12-1 and Mladenovic at odds of 13-1.
