Free Stanley Cup Picks: Detroit Red Wings vs. San Jose Sharks Game 7 Predictions

And it all comes down to this… There have already been a whopping four Game 7s in Stanley Cup playoff betting action this year. In a round full of relative disappointment, the clash between the San Jose Sharks and the Detroit Red Wings has been epic. The Wings were down 3-0 in the series but have clawed back for three straight wins, setting up this do or die situation on Thursday night at the Shark Tank for both teams.

Give the offense for the Red Wings all of the credit in the world. In the first three games in this series, they had trouble scoring three goals period. All of a sudden, in three straight wins, the offense has had a three goal period in all three of the efforts. Though in Game 4, the three goal first period didn’t prove to be enough to win the game, it was the difference both in Game 5 and Game 6, and the hope is that the offense can spit out one more fantastic effort to get the team into the Western Conference Finals. Still, only three teams in the history of the league have ever come back from this deficit to win a series. The good news though, is that the Chicago Blackhawks nearly pulled it off this year against the Vancouver Canucks (who are now waiting in the Western Conference Finals), and the Philadelphia Flyers were able to pull it off last year to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals (and eventually, the Stanley Cup Finals).

The Sharks did a great job at the outset of this series, but when push has really come to shove, it wasn’t the stars that you were expecting that ultimately ended up doing the damage. Patrick Marleau, after having 73 points in the regular season, has no goals and no assists in the series. Joe Thornton has just two goals in the playoffs and none in this series after scoring 21 in the regular season. Dany Heatley has lit the lamp just once since this series got started. He had 26 strikes in the regular season. Joe Pavelski averaged just under a point per game in the regular season. He’s got three points in six games this time around. Antti Niemi was brought here to win a Stanley Cup, and he brought the experience from last year’s Cup team with the Blackhawks to the Shark Tank with him. In the periods which he has been good in these last few games, he has been great. After all, he has a fantastic .972 save percentage in those other periods. In the three periods in this series in which he has been awful and allowed the three goals, Niemi has a save percentage under .700.

San Jose Sharks vs. Detroit Red Wings Pick: The truth of the matter is that the -130 price tag on the Sharks is about as good as you’re going to get on a team that has won nearly 2/3 of its home games this season. However, when push comes to shove, it is Detroit that has the mojo right now, and we are still talking about a team that won almost 2/3 of its road games in the regular season and has a 3-1-1 mark on the road in the playoffs this. Our Stanley Cup picks: Go with the Red Wings +110.
