The Colts’ defense got run over by Houston running back Arian Foster (231 yards) in a 34-24 loss. They also wasted another big throwing day from Peyton Manning (433 yards). The Giants beat Carolina at home (31-18), but Eli Manning will need a huge game to beat his brother.
New England (-1 ½) is at the New York Jets in the other marquee matchup. This is known as the ‘Border War’ for a reason and it’s only gotten more intense the last few years. New England looked very good in beating Cincy last week (38-24). The Jets lost to Baltimore 10-9 on MNF in an anemic offensive effort.
Philadelphia is giving four-points at Detroit. Detroit will be without starting quarterback Matthew Stafford. Shaun Hill will fill in. Philly’s Kevin Kolb (concussion) is questionable, but Mike Vick played very good in relief last week.
Pittsburgh survived against Atlanta last week in overtime (15-9). This game will be much tougher in Tennessee as the Titans looked great against woeful Oakland (38-13). Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be watching on television once again. Tennessee is favored by five points.
Miami (+5 ½) isn’t getting a lot of respect at Minnesota. Part of the reason was a close 15-10 win at lowly Buffalo. The other reason is that Brett Favre and Minnesota are expected to come out smoking after losing at the Saints (14-9).
San Francisco had one of the worst performances in Week 1, getting blown out in Seattle (31-6). Quarterback Alex Smith is already on the hot seat after a poor performance. The defending champion Saints will have had 10 days off after playing on Thursday night. New Orleans is favored by five points on Monday night.
