It could be that the first team to get to 40 wins this one. Let’s look at the matchup and NFC Championship Game picks.

The Packers visit the Falcons on Sunday, January 22 with a start time of 3:05 pm Eastern on FOX.

NFC Championship Game Odds

Falcons -5, total 60.5

Packers vs. Falcons

The Packers have Aaron Rodgers and perhaps he is all they need to continue to win games. Green Bay was without Jordy Nelson last week in the win over Dallas and Nelson may not play again this week. Davante Adams is also dealing with an ankle injury and his status is questionable. And the Green Bay defense is banged up with injuries in the secondary.  Rodgers has been playing at an unbelievably high level and he has covered up a lot of Green Bay weaknesses and he may be able to do so again this week against a poor Atlanta defense. Rodgers has thrown 24 TDs and just one interception in the last eight games.

The Packers do have Ty Montgomery who was not playing running back the first time these teams played earlier his season when Atlanta won 33-32. The Packers also have Randall Cobb and Jared Cook who missed that first meeting. Green Bay averaged 27 points per game this season while giving up 24 per contest.

The Atlanta defense feels they have been underrated this season and that they have something to prove against Rodgers and Green Bay.”We’re all going to have something to prove. I love it.” cornerback Robert Alford said.

The Falcons actually have a better offense than Green Bay and Matt Ryan has better numbers than Rodgers. And there is no question that Atlanta has more weapons with Julio Jones, Davonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman. The Falcons led the league in scoring this season and it wasn’t close. Atlanta will be facing a poor Green Bay defense that hasn’t stopped anyone and a defense that is next to last in the league against the pass.

”They are very explosive,” Green Bay’s Nick Perry said. ”When we look at the film, we have to make sure we don’t give up those explosive plays. Everything lives off that. They are good at what they do. We are going to look at the film and go over it and make sure we prevent as much as we can of those guys giving up explosive plays.”

Atlanta averaged almost 34 points per game this season while giving up 25 per contest.

Game Notes

The Falcons and Packers ranked 28th and 31st this season against the pass so a shootout is expected between Rodgers and Ryan. Green Bay has gone 4-0 ATS in their last four playoff road games. They are also 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Conference Championships games. Atlanta is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 playoff home games.

The road team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings in this series. Green Bay is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Atlanta. The Underdog is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

The last six Green Bay games have gone over the total. They have also gone over in four of their last five playoff road games. Atlanta has gone over in their last nine home games and in their last six playoff home games.

NFC Championship Game Picks

Both teams have been going over the total on a regular basis and this should be the shootout that everyone expects so I will take the game over the total.
