Game Overview

Foes from the NL West meet up in what should be a great Labor Day MLB betting showdown to wrap up the holiday, as the San Diego Padres take on the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Padres had won seven out of eight and had looked pretty darn frisky before losing a couple straight games over the weekend. They aren't going to be anywhere near a playoff team this year, but the threat to at least think about challenging the 80-win mark is a great accomplishment for a team that was basically down and out a solid three months ago. On Monday, one of the bright youngsters of the San Diego farm system, Andrew Werner is going to get the baseball. The southpaw has had two starts thus far in his brief career, and they have looked awfully similar. In both, he threw six innings. In both he allowed four hits. In both he allowed two runs and one homer. The difference? The game against the Pittsburgh Pirates he was a winner in spite of the fact that he walked four and struck out just two. The game against the Atlanta Braves he took the loss even though he struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.

My, what a time it must be for Adrian Gonzalez. It wasn't all that long ago that Gonzo made his way to Dodgertown to be with his newest teammates, and he immediate stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run homer. Now last night, he got a huge game-winning walk off hit, and now, he gets to take on the team that he grew up with and loves so much. Life is good for sure. Of course, life isn't all that great if you're bleeding blue right now, knowing that if the playoffs started today, the Dodgers would be left behind. However, things could get better tonight with Joe Blanton on the bump. It's hard to think that Blanton has already made five starts with his new team, but he has, and he is just 1-3 to show for his work. Hits have really been racking up against Blanton, as he allowed 10 in back to back games before tonight's outing. The game before that, Blanton only allowed seven hits, but three were homers and eight runs were conceded. He'll need to pitch better than that to be able to win this game.

The Dodgers are clearly the better of these two teams, but we think that both lineups will get their licks today. Look for at least four runs on the board for both sides, as neither pitcher factors into the decision. Los Angeles 6 – San Diego 4
