Texas may have the lowest team ERA in the American League at 3.58 but it took a beating on Tuesday night in Game 1 of this three-game series in a 17-5 loss to the Red Sox as a 130 road underdog. The Rangers still lead Oakland in the AL West by a game and a half but they are now 3-5 in their last eight games to fall to 35-22 overall. Texas is 17-14 on the road this season and the total has stayed UNDER in four of its last seven games.
Alexi Ogando will get the start for the Rangers on Wednesday night. The right-hander is 4-2 on the year with a 3.08 ERA. This will be his first game back since going on the DL in mid-May for tendinitis in his arm. On May 4 Ogando pitched six solid innings against Boston; giving-up one run on six hits to get the win. Overall he is 2-2 against the Red Sox with an ERA of 3.93.
Boston has now won seven of its last 10 games to open-up a 2.5-game lead over both New York and Baltimore in the AL East. It is 36-23 overall and 18-12 at Fenway Park this season. The total has gone OVER in three of its last five games after pounding out a total of 41 runs during this stretch. The Red Sox are hitting .272 as a team and they are ranked first in the AL in scoring with an average of 5.19 runs per game.
John Lackey will be on the mound for Boston in this one. He got tagged for three solo homers in his last outing to fall to 3-5 in his first eight starts. Overall the right-hander has an ERA of 2.96 and a 1.18 WHIP. Lackey has had his share of problems against Texas in the past with a 6.14 ERA and a record of 12-15.
