Cleveland will look to claim the rubber match and win this series on Wednesday night after bouncing back from a 6-3 loss in Game 1 as a 131 road underdog with a 5-2 victory as a 150 underdog on the road in last night’s contest. The total stayed UNDER in both games. The Indians are now 31-33 on the year and 5.5 games in back of Detroit in the AL Central. They are 13-21 on the road this season.
Pitching continues to be an issue for Cleveland with a team ERA of 4.45 but fortunately it continues to be fairly solid at the plate. The Indians are ranked sixth in the American League in scoring with an average of 4.73 runs a game. Mark Reynolds has led the way with 42 RBI and 13 home runs. Ubaldo Jimenez will get the start in this series finale. The right-hander is 4-4 this season with a 5.03 ERA. He gave up five runs in just three innings his last time out after allowing just two earned runs combined in his last two outings. He is 1-2 against Texas with a 4.37 ERA.
The Rangers are now just 4-6 in their last 10 games and tied with Oakland for the lead in the AL West at 38-26 overall. They are 19-9 at home this season and the total has stayed UNDER in seven of their last 10 games. The six runs they scored on Monday night were a welcomed sign after scoring three or less runs in six of their previous eight games.
Texas has always been known for its ability to put runs on the board and it is averaging 4.53 runs a game this season, but it has been its pitching that has carried the team so far. The Rangers have the third-best staff ERA in the AL at 3.58. They will send Nick Tepesch to the mound on Wednesday night. The rookie is 3-5 in 11 starts this season with a 3.92 ERA. He got tagged for six earned runs on five hits in seven innings of work his last time out after allowing two or less earned runs in his previous four starts. This will be the right-handers first career start against Cleveland.
Free MLB Pick
Each team took its turn teeing off against the other in the first two games, but you get the feeling that runs will be easy to come by for both in Game 3. While a play on the OVER could be the way to go even with such a high total line, the free MLB pick in this one is Texas.
