Game Overview

It has been a rough start to this week’s four-game stay in the Big Apple for Arizona. After losing Monday’s opener 5-4 in 13 innings as a 116 road favorite, it was walloped 9-1 on Tuesday night as a 140 favorite. The Diamondbacks current losing streak has reached five games and they are now just a game and a half ahead of Colorado in the NL West at 42-41. Their road record dropped to 21-25 on the year and the total has gone OVER in three of their last four games.

Over the course of this five-game skid Arizona has been outscored 34-12 and it has now scored four or less runs in eight of its last 10 games. Overall, the Diamondbacks are ranked eighth in the National League in pitching with a team ERA of 3.94 and fifth in scoring with an average of 4.2 runs a game. Randall Delgado is slated to get the start on Wednesday night. The right-hander is making his fourth start for Arizona and is 0-2 with a 4.05 ERA.

The Mets are now 35-45 on the year and 12.5 games back in the NL East. They have struggled at home this season with a record of 17-25 but are 3-1 in their last four games at Citi Field. The total has gone OVER in four of their last five games after putting a total of 25 runs on the board over this stretch of games.

New York has to be encouraged by its recent production at the plate considering it is ranked 12th in the NL in scoring with an average of just four runs a game. The Mets pitching has held up pretty well this season with a 3.97 team ERA and they will have one of their best on the mound in this game with Matt Harvey getting the start. The right-hander improved to 7-1 this season by allowing just one run on three hits in a win over Washington last Friday. He has the best ERA in the NL at 2.00 and also leads the league in strikeouts.

While betting the current money line on the Mets presents a significant risk for a team that is 10 games below .500 this season, it is definitely not a good idea to bet against them with Harvey on the mound. Look for New York to add to the D-Backs’ current slide with a win on Wednesday night.
