The Braves come into this three-game weekend series against their NL East rivals looking to bounce back from dropping two out of three games to Miami earlier this week. They are now 49-36 on the year and six games ahead of Washington in the division title race. Atlanta is under .500 on the road this season at 20-23 and the total has gone OVER in three of their last five games.
Atlanta only managed to score a total of six runs in its last two games after pounding out 27 in its previous three outings. Overall, it is ranked fourth in the National League in scoring with an average of 4.3 runs a game. The Braves are second in the NL in pitching with a team ERA of 3.23. They will send Tim Hudson to the mound as their starter for this series opener. The right-hander is 4-7 this season with a 4.22 ERA. Against the Phillies he is 10-9 with an ERA of 3.81.
Philadelphia is 5-5 in its last 10 games and desperately trying to stay in the division race at 41-45 overall. It took two out of three this week against Pittsburgh on the road and returns home after an extended 10-game road trip with a record of 19-18 at Citizens Bank Park. The total went over in eight of those 10 games.
Sometimes it appears that the Phillies are winning games with smoke and mirrors considering their pitching is ranked 13th in the NL with a 4.17 team ERA and they are ranked 10th in scoring with an average of 3.9 runs a game. Fortunately for this division matchup they will have one of their top hurlers on the mound in Cliff Lee. The left-hander is 9-2 this season with a 2.59 ERA. He is 5-4 lifetime against the Braves with a 2.74 ERA.

Philadelphia is 6-1 in its last seven games as a home favorite and 7-3 in Lee’s last 10 starts at home. Look for the Phillies to stay true to these trends and give the home-town fans something to cheer about with a victory over their division rivals this Friday night.
