Saturday will feature some late night fireworks in Major League Baseball betting action when the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday night at 8:10 ET in the desert at Chase Field. The Dodgers took the first of the three game series 6-0 on Friday night.
Los Angeles got a comfortable victory in Friday’s series opener behind the stellar pitching of Hyun-Jin Ryu who threw 7.0 innings striking out eight batters and giving up just two hits in his first shutout of the season. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez had a huge night delivering all of his team’s runs in the game (5 RBI, 1 RS). Gonzalez started off his big outing with a first inning two-run homer off Brandon McCarthy. It was his third long ball of this young season as he is batting .244 and has driven in nine runs. The Dodgers find themselves as bigger ‘favorites’ on Saturday as one of their aces Zach Greinke will take the mound in Phoenix. He is off to a 2-0 start allowing just two runs in each of his two starts and holding a 3.27 ERA thus far. In Greinke’s last outing he went 6.0 innings and the two runs against him were both solo homeruns. Shortstop Dee Gordon is also playing well for Los Angeles as he is hitting .405 after going 2-for-4 in Friday’s game. Another nice outing from the offense would be a welcomed sight for Greinke who is looking for his third win in a row on Saturday.
The Diamondbacks were shutout for the second time of the season in the opening game of this series. Their two hits in the game both came from catcher Miguel Montero who went 2-for-3 at the plate. McCarthy managed to go 7.0 innings even though he gave up all six runs and 10 hits to the Dodgers lineup. In this game left hander Wade Miley will get the start for Arizona as it will be looking for its first home win since opening day. Miley’s last start came on April 6th in a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies in which he threw 8.0 innings giving up just seven hits and two earned runs to bring his record to 2-1 in three starts. The D’backs will need to find some offense in this game against Greinke as they score 3.97 runs per game. If they can get some run support for Miley this could be quite the high scoring affair as the ‘over’ has cashed in seven of their first 10 games. Unfortunately for Arizona its pitching staff and defense have yet to really get going as it gives up 5.87 runs per game as the league’s easiest team to score against to this point.
The Dodgers are ‘favorites’ for a really good reason in this game as they do have the superior pitcher and overall lineup as they face a weaker Diamondbacks squad. We expect to see Los Angeles have little trouble outscoring Arizona as it is 49-24 in its L/73 games as a ‘favorite’. Go with Dodger blue on Saturday in late night action as Greinke will have a big game for the road team in this one.
